Hi & welcome Jade
Ok...do you have a camera? If so then I'd recommend reading the manual, trying out the different settings & reporting back with anything you're not sure about - that's a rather general question you've posted & pretty much covers everything to do with photography.
Try reading as many books on the subject as you can (understanding exposure, digital photography made easy, etc) & read up on posts here that that can offer insight on what to look for in your photography.
Look at images that you like & ask questions about how to achieve that look, etc. I'm sure people will be willing to give you more directed guidance when you know which direction you'd like to take your images

Searches for different cameras, ISO settings, apertures, shutter speeds, focal lengths, etc. will all give huge lists of things to know so it's always better to start off small with one subject at a time & work your way through until your confidence grows

I get my camera on the 5th of january off of a friend who told me about this forum

I have spent all evening writing down some photo ideas and now have some that i really want to try out ive been looking round the forum and thats sparked off some ideas some which are nuts some seem alot less crazy

my friend has offered to help me out will also be reading up as much as I can.

Its abit overwhelming goin from phone to actual camera although some pigs on my phone I love I just want a better quality now that will take the picture as I click now 5 seconds later lol
espesially catching the puppies I have is going to be much easier.

So do you know which camera you are getting?

that'll let people here know the level of control that you will have with the camera and the type of photos it will be capable of.

OK, just spotted your welcome thread . . . 350D, neat
that gives you are huge range of photographic possibilities
any idea which lens?

what type of photos will you be wanting to take? you've got some ideas, I am sure people here can point you in the right direction to achieve them. And as Moomike said, browse the forum and when you see images that you are interested in ask how they were achieved.

there are loads of tutorials spread across the internet. Here's a good one to start with:

Welcome to the House of Fun...a 350D will be miles easier to use that the phone once you get the hang of it - 'what you see is what you get' rather than what happens 5 seconds after you push the button.
It's a slow process, but when you get the camera just go out and play - don't worry too much about the results you get to begin with, just get used to using the camera and familiarising yourself with the controls.
We'll all still be here to answer any questions you may have when you have something more specific to hit us with...

Have Fun!

Welcome to the forum Jade and good luck with the 350D, you're going to have lots of fun I'm sure (just don't try making phone calls with it )

Lol you never know I may try if iIcompletly forget myself or if my phone rings in my pocket lol

Im think im getting 55 to 80 mm lens ? not sure on that one

I guess im just excited will be great when I can start trying to get all my ideas and thoughts into a picture.

My ideas are so vaired theres no chance I could ever get bored Im just looking at locations for some of the pictures at the min.

I think my first big go me and lisa who im getting the camera from will have a trip to a zoo or something
just so she can show me the ins and outs (and let me use her big zoom lens)
my first practise Ill use my animals as models as there easily excessable lol.

well anyway I cant wait Im really excited.

switch it on , put the little round dial on the top on "P" (program , or full auto to you.) take the lens cap off and go play.press the shutter button half way in, to autofucus, then the rest of the way down to snap. then go play.
welcome to the funny farm. i use a 350D for weddings. darn good camera.plenty of scope to learn on to.
mark.

Thanx
I cant wait to get it I think there will be plenty of experimenting going on at first

I was wondering when is it good to use a hoya filter and when is it better not to im not sure what the hoya filter type is but its one that makes the sky bluer
Im a bit camera thick.

Jade it sounds as though you might be getting a polarising filter with your camera as it's these filters that are generally used to enhance blue skies (although not uniquely). I could offer you some links but I think it's probably best if you google 'polarising filter' yourself and see what tutorials are available on the subject. Suffice to say, these filter can be a very useful tool and not only for making blue skies look richer.

Welcome to TP.

The only advice I can give you is not to get hung up on which lenses to get next or any other bits and bobs you may want, if you get the photography habit there'll be plenty of time to draw up a wish list that'll make your bank manager (do they still exist?) cry.

Take photographs try changing settings to see how they effect the image, post them here for critique and you'll be doing ok.;). Oh and don't be afraid to ask for :help:.

Im already getting a hoya filter so that ones not too bad,
Lisa will have to show me how to use the thing

Im buzzing with ideas so hopefully that will gve me plenty of stuff to try and play with some will be harded than others but surely even if I was a fantastic photographer if I didnt have the ideas that would be useless atleast with the ideas I can learn what i need to do to be able to make things happen.
