Its a couple of degree's above freezing out there...

Nope - saying is north of the watford gap - the watford gap is near the tiny village of watford northants (and more pertinently Watford Gap services on the M1)
Its been a London saying as long as I remember,
nothing to do with Watford Nothants, or the gap in the hills
that gave the services their name
Is that near the Amazon?
Its not far from the Amazon warehouse if thats what you mean :D

Noooooo.....the stuff from vans from isn't real ice cream!

There are quite a few vans down this way that have real ice cream. A few of them even make their own. Been seeing the same van and operator in one car park for about 20 years (OK, the van's been changed but it's still the same guy who runs it!)

I really couldn't be arsed to google,
all I know is that the Londoners I know,
always say (and mean) Watford (herts)
But you know what, I don't really care,
but its nice to know that you do (y)

Thats because the londoners you know are mistaken about where the saying comes from - when i was younger I'd always assumed that the watford gap in the saying "north of the watford gap" was the large town in herts too, it was only when i started driving oop north a lot and realised where the services were that I realised i'd been mistaken

Absolutely they must be, Google never lies
But for many the world ends at Watford. (Herts)

TBH I don't even know why you are wasting so much time on this,
I made a throw away comment about living North of Watford,
I could have just as easily said Bushy or St. Albans.
Both are South of me

But ( and without being arsed to Google "Maps" )
I guess I live fairly much at a mid way point between Both Watford's,
I guess that leaves me pretty much in no man' s land :D

But but but North of Watford must be correct as it then includes famous northern towns like MK and Northampton. I mean look at the name NORTHampton :p

As a Southerner, I've only ever hear the expression as "North of Watford" rather than "Watford Gap". I usually try to avoid going North of the M4 corridor TBH! The Midlands starts at Bristol.

Bit different for me.
As a transplant to Kent I'm always referred to here (Kent, not TP) as a northerner.
But I'm from Derbyshire, which the last time I looked was the Midlands :-) So I'm a Midlander.
North to me is anything above Marple or Sheffield.

Well that is one confusion resolved :p it all makes sense now

I wonder where the most Northerly 'North' direction sign is ?

I have to head South to visit the North.

There's a few "norths" down here near the south coast

Just a few miles from Watford gap here in the Midlands but never refer to myself as a midlander.. Grew up Cambridgeshire and born in gosport

Well i have passport at the ready and £ to bribe border controls as I will be venturing near MK today and going past Watford Gap on my way to Stratford-uber-avon

Guilty as charged. Expect shyte weather tomorrow pm as well, as the focus hogs the bmw/audi lane of the M1 on warp factor 2 back to turnip land.
