These ongong events of stopping and serching photographers are really putting me off of going to London . I know that all around the country people are been stopped ,but non more so than in the capital . I have never visisted London but was planning to in the near future . I'm actually now too scared to go, not for fear of terrorist attack, but for fear of been arrested for enjoying (The freedom of ????.) my home country . If it is scaring our fellow citizens away what is it doing for the tourist economy ?

dont let anything put you off (apart from maybe the litter)

However, I'm still pretty sure I'm the only photographer on TPF who has been stopped by a copper with a machine gun.

What on earth were you doing carrying that for Gary?

Hey as said do let this stop you going to london.
I was down not long ago and had my camera on me.
I walked around the finacial district 3 or 4 times looking for pictures to fit the brief.
Then I walk around central london and never got one bit of hassle.
Londons great so dont let something like this put you off.
One thing I will say is take pleanty money as its well expensive;)

Thousands of people visit London and take photographs. We only hear about the odd few who get stopped because the rest are not newsworthy.

Visit London. I would (almost) guarantee that you will not get any hassle.

Steve.

I have wandered round London countless time with my camera gear and not once been stopped by the police. Don't let these very few publicised events put you off one jot.

Be mindful of some of the stuff thats been mentioned here and a good day is always guaranteed in London :)

yup. you are more likely to get murdered, so dont let the police presence put you off lol

No I don`t get what you mean?

Everyone makes mistakes, that is the point i`m making.

Of course everyone makes mistakes, but when you keep making the same mistake you have to start wondering what's going wrong. Or do we do what you're implying and just take it on the chin?

@CT.

I'm Asian, born and bred in this country. But I don't want to blow you up. It's about time people, like you, stopped viewing ethnic minorities with such suspicion as I find it frankly insulting.

 .. this thread has its' funny moments.

As for London, 30 years I've been shooting there; if anything, the police were always helpful, polite, and willing to pose to get others to pose for me.

I've yet to be shot, or murdered too.

Maybe that's why I'm in Afghanistan with a rifle and you're at home in the UK looking forward to Christmas with your family...

Some of us have to make 'mistakes' so others can go about their lives in relative comfort...

I have done my stint Mister. You are not the only one who has, perhaps you should consider that before making asinine statements.

If I may agree with you, there were a number of insults thrown around in this thread. I am sure they were not intended as insults but badly worded expression of point of view ... at least I hope so

For God's sake get real! Whoever said you did? It's a fact that young Asian men born and bred in this country or coming here at a very young age, have trained as terrorists, operate cells here, have planted bombs, have planned to plant bombs, and have been tried and convicted.

Then you should know better...shame on you.

I find your earlier implied criticism quite offensive...

There's nothing asinine in my statement - what I actually feel like telling you wouldn't pass the swear filter.

What's your point? That all Asians are terrorists?

That's like me looking at white people and thinking they're about to hurl racial abuse at me because I'm brown.

Can`t be arsed.

For goodness sake, it's about ordinary people being harassed, a freaking Italian girl by some idiot who cant get laid :bang:

She's being cocky?
She's trying to stand up for herself, using a foreign language, against some gum chewing moron who likes throwing his weight around.

Calm down mate - I did the same thing twenty years ago whenever I heard an Irish accent in a pub...

And to be honest, how many Asian men have hurled racial abuse at you? I'd think it would all be coming from ignorant white people, would it not? Just because you're not going around thinking that, doesn't make it less likely.

Okay I feel this one has run its course - theres been some sensible and less sesnsible debate - I'm sure another one will be along soon :)

Thanks for the contributions and mind the doors !
