Can anyone point me in the right direction to source some IT8 reference targets - for Kodak, Fuji, etc.

Colour Confidence supply the Kodak ones, either individually or in a set of 3 for 35mm 4 x 5 and reflective 5 x 7.

Not sure where you'll get the Fuji ones though.

Thanks Chappers. I'll look into that, but I might be running before I can walk!

Slight change of topic direction...

I found a Monaco Systems target with which I attempted to calibrate my Epson V750. A couple of problems...

Firstly, I cannot see the preview scan well enough (too dark) to resize the frame to the crop marks on the gel. This is using Silverfast 6.6.x and I get a message that the frame is not aligned correctly.. restart. I can only presume I'd have similar problems using other targets?

AFAIK, I have nothing fancy set on the scanner/software.

Have also tried EZcolor (which uses the Monaco targets) that came with the scanner, but, apparently, there is a known problem with this and Silverfast Website says use auto-calibrate (as tried above). I downloaded the updated reference file from Silverfast. Still no joy - this seems more like a brightness/frame alignment issue to me.

OS is Snow Leopard.

Any ideas?

Not sure if I can help much as I'm not familiar with the V750 and that calibration software.
I have worked with scanners but used ICC profiling software that effectively found the crop marks automatically for you. Never had a problem with scans being too dark .

The only thing I can suggest at the moment is have a look at the scanner software and see if there is a brightness control that allows you to make the image brighter, I'd also look to see if there is an auto setting. If there is turn it off as this may be the probelm.

Are you scanning transparency or reflective targets

Its a transparency target.

I had an old Nikon 35mm scanner at one time, and, if I recall correctly, those scans appeared quite dark too. But in the case of the IT8 target, its simply too dark to see the colour cells and crop marks.

You should have some brightness and contrast controls for the scan, If you can find them simply turn the brightness up.

Had a quick look at the manual and there is a brightness control. I'd suggest you takei it off automatic and switch to professional mode which gives you more options.
