It seems an integrated Muslim is not what some want, very very sad story.

My avatar represents workers the world over. It's not an endorsement of anybody. Get over yourself, watch some Benny Hill, have a Martini and get on with your day.

It is also the symbol under which, in the last 100 years, tens of millions of workers, men, women and children, who's only crime was to disagree with the Communist Manifesto have been murdered. I have met and, on occasion worked, with survivors of both the Soviet and Chinese Communist systems. If you had suffered even one tenth of what some of them had endured you would understand why LongLensPhotography feels the way he does and certainly not dismiss it with such a trite comment.

The hammer and sickle is a symbol of the communist movement in general, not the Soviet Union.
The hammer stands for the industrial working-class while the sickle represents the agricultural workers.

you are correct. Communists murdered over 150 million people worldwide. That's quite an endorsement.

If you get outraged by the evil nazi symbols this is far worse.

Communism never stood for the working people. Communism is the most repressive form of tyranny and if you advocate for it you are endorsing murder, oppression and slavery.

I don't get outraged by the swastika either tbh.
Again it is merely symbol...actually a 12,000 year old symbol for peace.
You should concentrate more on the perpetrators of these acts, and less on symbolism.

Edit.....Oh yes, and I'm advocating nothing; I'm simply not attributing evil acts to a symbol and then sitting astride a high horse pontificating about it.

Can you please provide details?
Figures for the 20th Century, according to some French Scholars. http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~hpcws/asreview.htm It's quite possible there were some before and since.
"U.S.S.R.: 20 million deaths; China: 65 million deaths; Vietnam: 1 million deaths; North Korea: 2 million deaths; Cambodia: 2 million deaths: Eastern Europe: 1 million deaths; Latin America: 150,000 deaths; Africa: 1.7 million deaths; Afghanistan: 1.5 million deaths; The international Communist movement and Communist parties not in power: about 10,000 deaths… The total approaches 100 million people killed."

I reckon you need to change your avatar asap. Soviet union slaughtered over 40 million people by 1950s and that symbol is very deeply offensive to me, my family and others affected by the Red terror. Thanks for understanding.

I got bitten by a cat, you avatar offends me.. get it changed ASAP

Indeed.

There's a good page about this on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_killings_under_Communist_regimes

It says:" Estimates of the death toll vary widely, depending on the methodology used.... Some higher estimates of mass killings include not only mass murders or executions.... but also lives lost due to war, famine, disease, and exhaustion in labor camps.... the total death toll of the mass killings defined in this way amounts to many tens of millions."

Wikipedia uses the estimate of 85-100 million under this wider definition. That includes many tens of millions who starved during famines, and the extent to which these deaths were deliberate can be debated. It seems likely that at least some were due to the administrative incompetence of the regimes in question. But our excitable friend claimed 150 million people murdered, and that's simply not true.

I've always taken the view that there is nothing wrong with any religion provided you practice it in the privacy of your own bedroom and wash your hands carefully afterwards. :coat:

There's a fine line between self worship and self abuse...

You're the gift that keeps on giving! Do you check under your bed every night?

How terrible for the man and his family. So glad the killer has been caught. Would also be sad for them I'm sure to see his life reduced to some crummy argument about communism.
