weekly It is what it is, Sirching for 52/2016 - 52 - Celebrate

Great take on the theme Chris... it works and shows a real sense of what makes an image. I'd love to see the pictures when you've forgotten the card - could you post them up?

Thanks Paul, I have attached what I think is one of the better SD-Cardless images

I imagine that when this tree started growing this whole area was covered with soil and grass but successive winter floods have eroded that away leaving just stones.

Or this little bridge is a single slab of stone...

I do like stonework even just the simplicity of that bridge, the first one a closer crop of the root in the bottom two thirds of the frame would work as well showing a little more detail
you will have to go back and do it again

:D it's tempting to go back because the sun is shining here but it's unliky. Thanks for looking

Like them both Chris but the second edges it for me with that beautifully clear water (y)

The bridge shot for me Chris.
I'm thinking a polarising filter to remove the reflections and some of the haze would work on it too. (Of course that all depends on having a CPL of the right size hanging around).

Two nice images Chris, and this time I'm running with the crowd and saying "bridge"
Nice PoV, and I quite like the reflections as well.

Two nice finds Chris - I like the dof in the first and the pov in the second giving a peek through to the greenery on the other side of the bridge.

Thanks all. @LC2 I did use a CPL and this was the best I could do but it is on a very wide angle and the camera was only a few inches above the water.

Hi Chris ....two super shots for the theme ...it's hard to choose a favourite, the tree root with the stones is an excellent find, but the bridge shot is very eye catching .... I think it just about wins.

2 nice pictures. I like the first best, nice light and colours.
Thanks Susie and Clive. I think the first has a bit more story but the second is perhaps a more appealing photo.

Hi Chris, I really like both of those stone images :)

The first one has real potential for me... I'd be inclined to lose maybe 10% off the top, cropping out to just under where that fat horizontal branch/root spur sticks out in the middle horizontally. Then it's just a case of making the most of a really interesting composition with your processing - light is good and plenty of headroom to play around with contrast, split toning etc. if you want to... really nice one!

The second has some good leading lines but probably not quite the oomph of the first. Super job allround though

Thanks Paul, my feeling was that the first had more potential but would have been better with the sun lower, it was early afternoon. I do need to learn more about things like split toning, I tend to shy away from heavy processing because I am concious that there is a fine line between doing it right and over cooking it.

Actually I take it back about the crop - I think just a boost to contrast & perhaps a touch of toning (this is overcooked but gives you a sense of the range of options - this being one end of it! http://i.imgur.com/cCCEJXo.jpg )

Thanks for taking the time, your rendition has really brought out the details, make me wish I had gone for more DoF now (y)

Absolutely love the 2nd image of the bridge Chris. The reflections of the sky added to the clearness of the water revealing the stones under the surface is absolutely stiunning

Wow, thanks Mark, comments like that make it worth getting my feet wet

Some nice colour and texture in the first (amazing roots) ... but that bridge (in its simplicity) is quite something.

Lovely detail Chris the dof really makes it stand out very nice indeed.

Oooo liking that Chris, lovely clean white, good detail and also liking the square crop... first image of the theme too (y)

Lovely detail Chris the dof really makes it stand out very nice indeed.

Thanks both, I was out for a walk last night, spotted this and thought it would make a simple photo.

I like that Chris - lovely macro shot of the dandelion puffball - the DoF just draws the eye into the centre and into all that intricate detail of the seed.

Chris, really nice for the theme. Just right. Got to get my thinking cap on
Thanks Chris

Thanks Carl, I tried a few different apertures but liked this best.

Hi Chris ...It seems to look slightly too bright to me but it might be my screen, a fabulous choice of subject for the topic ...I love them.
Thanks Susie, I did pull the highlights/whites up to the max. I always find it hard to know how far to go with PP.

The seedy end of photography eh? :D

A very nice detailed shot Chris :)

Good effort there, Chris. Certainly nice and simple and as said the DoF is perfect t9 really make it pop. Great detail and very sharp. I can rarely focus well enough on shots like this due to wind blowing the subject about!

Where's the groan emoji :), thanks for looking

Thanks Ian, I know what you mean, this was down by a wall so was pretty sheltered which is also probably why it is a complete head and hasn't lost any bits, thanks for comments

looks fine on my screen, like the DoF you have used it really works well with the subject

Stone - both great choices for the theme I like the bridge best great Pov
