New Canon 7D with 18-135 lens for sale by a seller on the bay that only had 3 feedback and they were all new ebay users. So thought I would put a silly bid in of £780, it eventually went for about £1170 and today I get a second chance offer saying its an urgent sell would I like it for £800 delivered.
Now there were seveal bids above mine about 6 in total, so is this the bargin of the month or scam and hassle, don't think I will be taking up the offer though its tempting.
If its too good to be true it normally is.

Yep scam. Where is the seller? UK? area?

if you cant pick it up or paypal it ... dont bother. Maybe a tog from here lives near the seller and can pop round to view it.

About 5 years ago this same thing went on with the 1d and 1ds

I think youve answered it yourself.

If there are several bids above you then why are they offering it to you?

How much would you expect to pay for this kit at a fair price? If it quacks like a duck....

If you are prepared to collect it, then go for it. If not leave it!

99% the second chance offer was planned, most likely someone was boosting the bids or he created another account to boost bids and then because he won he has put it in for a second chance "urgent" offer because it only gives you a short time to decide which psychologically would be such an appealing bargain for most that they accept it and then get conned.

If its not a scam its a job lot of nicked kits he's selling quick.

It's a well known second chance scam; sometimes by the original seller (maybe wanting a deposit) and sometimes by a forged email from a third party.

there is a id mk 111 for sale now and the seller is using the same photo that someone else used to sell their camera last week.
the seller will only accept bank transfer and looking at the completed listings its the 3rd time its been up for sale.

Report it to eBay then, they banned that ages ago for security reasons.

i have and they replied this morning only to tell me that they can't do anything unless the seller that posted the original photo contacts them.
i also contacted the original seller to tell him someone else was using his photo and he also got back to me and is going to contact ebay.

just had a look and the camera has been removed from ebay

I think he means, report the fact that he will only accept bank transfer! NOT the picture!

That was my other thought, if the kit really exists, may have some fun with this is a mate who lives in Notts is able to pop down to pick up as he is a retired policeman, that would sort the toerags.

i've been reporting scam auctions for D700 or D3 almost every day at the moment.... very boring, always about a grand under normal price and a jpg of text saying "quick sale, send me the cash by bank transfer", all from a clearly hijacked account.

Nothing new, there's been scams going on for years with any high-value item, ebay don't really care, at least they finally blocked everyone being able to see who'd bid, so there are slightly less scam 2nd chance offers than there used to be... but they now just hijack selling accounts to get the names of potential marks...

Bids aren't the same as bidders. They could all have been from a single time waster.

I am reporting many as well. Most are very obvious to me. Some are more delicate, like pushing 70-200/4 as 2.8.

P.S. Sometimes it is possible to get a real 2nd chance offer even if you weren't the top 2 bidder. It happened to me once. I met the guy locally and it was all valid; he just didn't want to post it. THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE.

There is a reason why the 6 people above you didn't take up the offer..

Certainly sounds a bit suspect and as based on what has been mentioned above I think I too would pass the offer. Wise choice :)

sounds like a scam or something that isnt worth wasting time or money, flea bay need to sort this sort of business out, fed up of scams going on there, suppose why i try avoid it

just looked up the listing. Total scam, his seller feedback lists three auctions, but all three of them are from 1 or 0 feedback users. The feedbacks are private, and I just checked his completed listings, another 7D for about the same price - "privatised" sale.

I'm stunned that you're all wasting good pubtime even discussing this!!!

TINSTAAFL!!!

Stay well clear. It would be money down the drain i'd imagine. I couldn't see Paypal or Ebay seeing you alright if it is something iffy. Avoid.

went back up quickly and everyone can see which it so as they say on the "last-train" mind the step

I thought i would have a play and ask could it be inspected and picked up and did they have the receipt this was the response so buyer beware

"Hi, this is a Uk model canon and I got it as a birthday gift last week. I am not keen on cash on collection due to stories i've heard in the past as my sisters been stung before, i hope you can understand.

The most relevant payment method to my current situation is via my bank (HSBC) as i can access the funds in time to pay my unfortunate fine.

Do inform me if you're still interested."

Shame ebay don't take seriously the scams people have flagged to them
