The mark of a good manager is to create a team to win, even if you have poor players.
Take Roy Hodgson, took over a rubbish side, kept them up, and then with few additions have improved loads. Look at the Greek side that won the Euros, rubbish team but had a gameplan and it worked. Wherever Jose has gone, his teams have won titles galore. Having good players helps but its the manager that builds spirit and strategy. Close to me are Histon, who went on a 5 promotions in 10 years run and season before last finished in Conference playoffs despite having a poor side relative to the top 10 teams. The reason they did well was due to the manager and coach, when they left they went in freefall!!
Germany had a poor team at last WC but Low seems to be a good manager and gets the most out of his players.
We have been rubbish throughout the tournament and it is Capello who is to blame :
- Not choosing a No.1 goalie. Why take a rookie Hart to WC, he knows what James and Green are like so why not play Hart in the 3 or 4 warm up games in full to build his experience.
- Not taking Sol Campbell to WC and not playing Dawson, instead playing Upson who was shown to be out of his depth.
- Not taking Parker but taking Carrick who was poor all season. Taking Lennon who can never deliver a final ball, SWP who is out of his depth at this level, not playing Joe Cole 90% of the time... Walcott is better than Lennon or SWP, not great but he has turned games like Croatia or Barcelona (2-2 at Arsenal) which the others have not done.
- Keeping Rooney on the pitch when he was cack.
- Not giving Bent a run of games to see if he is any good - you cant base it on 45 mins here and there. Not working on Gerrard/Rooney combo and playing Defoe and Rooney which does not work.
- Looking at todays game, has there been any work done on positioning or defending, I dont think so.
- There is obviously a bad vibe in the camp and his stupid naming the team as late as possible.
- Pointless substitutions.
The FA should get Jose or Wenger in as they can get the most out of players... or Hodgson or Redknapp.
