It has begun....and now it's ended....again **TP OFFICIAL WORLD CUP THREAD**

You're only ever right when I don't have a bet on!! :annoyed:

yeah me too.

Last season in the premier league I got 3 accumulators with 9 out of 10. The worst thing was that two of them the teams who let me down were the sitters, i.e. arsenal and man utd.

The arsenal sunderland loss lost me 8 grand on a 1 pound bet

well I hate to say I told ya so ......

I never said they wouldn't win :p

So the French give up early and go home, the US arrive at the last minute and we get left to fight the Germans. That's never happened before!

I shall use that one with my colleagues tomorrow (2 Germans, 1 French, 1 American). :D

Oh I love this game, always down to the nail biting before you spill your drink!

Continuing with that analogy, if England win the final (please God don't let that happen ) does that mean that we can expect America to produce a load of films about how it was actually them that won?

I don't understand the attraction... A bunch of overpaid pseudo-celebrities running around a field kicking a bag of wind about!

Not for me thanks...

Si

LOL, I had to laugh at that. 'Bag of wind' - that made me chuckle!

Lol, most probably.

as for England winning, you scots think we go on about 66, that will be nothing compared to how much we'll go on about this one. For me it will simply be because of the desire for England to fail that will drive me to such childishness!

I'm glad we got Germany on Sunday, Serbia would have been better but even though they lost, Ghana look like a right voodoo team, I didn't see much reason why they couldn't have beaten Germany except the scoreline said they didn't.
It'll be a Euro type game, we know what to expect and can prepare for it, better the devil you know than a load of big individually skill-full voodoo nutters like Cameroon in 90.
The Germans haven't got anything anyway, 2-0 or 2-1 England...;)

oh...and wasn't it great to be able to hear the fans singing...

What does that even mean!?

History and stats are against us Sunday, however, I really do feel the win on Wednesday has really lifted the spirits within the camp (did you see Capello's post match interview with Gabby Logon - Jesus, it's the happiest and most animated I've ever seen him, was good to see) and if we can knock the ball about like that and create decent chances we're in for a shout.

Saying this, Germany do look good (a young team as well) and I'd like to see Ozil in the Prem, please.

Why do people think we have such a terrible record against Germany. We've played em 27 times and won 12, they won 10 and the rest were draws, of the draws two of them were penalty shootouts which they won making it 12 a piece. Up until 2001 most of our wins were before 66 but then since 2001 we played them 3 times and won twice including the 5-1 thrashing. The game we lost was 2-1 so we weren't blown out of the water.

How is this such a poor record?

All the stuff John Terry has done over the past few months, made me really question what I thought about him ...

then he did this

and it all went away!

Sorry, I meant to say in tournament football i.e Euros and World Cup. We beat them in the group stages in Euro 2000, then the time before that was 1966. I wouldn't say that's a great record.

Also, since 1966 Germany have made 11 tournament finals, we've only made two semi finals. Like I said, history and stats are against us...

they also have no bearing on a game that has been yet to play. you cant do anything about history and stats, they already happened. which makes them irrelevant to the game in hand.

i seriously think we'll win on saturday and comfortably too. im going with 2-1 to england

I agree with that....if the exact same teams (player wise) had played last week, in the same tournament in the same stadium with the same share of fans present etc etc etc then that previous result would mean something, but results from years ago, don't mean anything at all on the day!

doing well aint we 2 nil down already

not looking great.....

Get in !

COME ON ENGLAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!

2:2 in my book

that was miles over the line

Well, I have been proved right about CAPELLO OUT!!!!

Yes, I know we should have gone in at HT 2-2, but we were totally outplayed for the first 30 mins and and have been pulled apart in the 2nd. From an average Germany side.

We do not seem to have worked on passing or defence in our weeks out in SA and even a League 2 side would have beaten us on that. Then he swaps a striker for a striker. WHY? Might as well go 3 at the back and stick another body up front.

Oh, and I did say last week Upson should not play, looked a good call, can anyone tell me if that idiot Rooney is actually bothered about playing in a World Cup?

You've gotta laugh at some of the **** commentators come out with. Apparently we can forget about the injustice of Lampard's "goal" as it's now irrelevant? I think it's even more relevant, we certainly wouldn't have been attacking like that if it had been given! :annoyed:

Ah well, looking forward to seeing my 2 German colleagues on Monday morning. :bang:

Correct.

2:2 would have rattled them and who knows how the rest of that first half would have gone.

2 sucker punches later......

Very hard for me to say this, but we didn't deserve to stay in the tournament :shake:

I'll give Fabio 2 weeks, tops.....

Agreed, tough to say but yet again our so called world class players prove they don't have what it takes on the World Stage. Lampard, Rooney, Gerard..none of them took control of any of the games we played in this tournament. For players of their class and skill it's just not good enough.

There was an Englishman, an Englishman and an Italian...

Hang on that doesn't work...

Hodgson for England manager. Why:

- he can speak english to the players
- he can get the best out of very average players
- he has managed successfully at club and national level
- he is tactically aware and capable of beating big teams
- is highly unlikely to cause player mutiny in the camp

am sure i can think of more later :D

Oh well - that's another 4 years of my life gone.

Will we ever win it ??????????

Anyway - who are people going to support now ?

What a load of rubbish,

Lampard's goal was definitely over the line

2 - 2 at half time may have made a difference

Where to start?!?

I really don't blame the players. We all know what they are capable of in the Premier League. The blame lays with the manager and the dullards at the FA for appointing him. Sven was far too laid back and too friendly with the players whereas the Italian diciplinarian is too remote and too dictatorial. I think it is now obvious that there have been major problems in the camp and I'm sure we'll hear about them in the coming weeks. The mindset of the players was totally wrong. Too many of them were making poor decisions, not just today but throughout this competition.

To my mind, no national manager should play key players out of position. I feel sorry for Gerrard and Terry in particular. He made a poor decision when choosing his captain - twice - when he didn't have to move away from probably the best captain in the land.

But then, Fabio is not so daft as we think. He's conned the old farts at the FA into agreeing to a new contract just before a competion instead of after it.

The great pity is that this dismal display by England will detract from the blatter/technology debate.

And, unlike Harry, he may leave out Crouch.

This could end like a cricket score.

The only reason it wasn't was due to some pretty poor German finishing. You could argue I suppose that your best player was your keeper but he didn't do himself any favours for the third.

Fair enough, the Lampard "goal" didn't help but you only really had a good 10 minutes the whole game. The rest of the tournament you were dire, scraping through a group which everyone considered one of the easiest.
