It has begun....and now it's ended....again **TP OFFICIAL WORLD CUP THREAD**

Heskey was the best player on the pitch, he's worth 8 of any body's money, so I can't take any of your assessments seriously..

England didn't play great but they created enough to win by a mile, I suppose its just disappointing, but no reason to start talking complete rubbish..

Agree with all the above. I saw a lot of possitives but an unfortunate result.

Let's not forget that we drew our 1st match in 1966........disappointing final result tonight, but all hope is not lost yet. If anything, the boys will probably try harder from next week and go from strength to strength. Let's not blast Green - very unfortunate mistake, but had it not been for him, the yanks would have got another one in - great save. Go on England!

Green 3/10
Johnson 5/10
King 4/10
Terry 5/10
Cole 5/10
Lennon 6/10
Gerrard 6/10
Lampard 6/10
Milner 4/10
Heskey 4/10
Rooney 5/10

Wright-Phillips 6/10
Carragher 5/10
Crouch 4/10

I think you've done Johnson, Terry and especially Heskey out of some marks there. Thought Heskey and Johnson were our best players. Rooney was 2 manned/fouled out of the game.

All in all wasn't happy with the result and couldn't understand why David James was left out. He was warming up before the game and at half time so it can't be put down to injury. I've never liked Green in goal for England. Would have preferred the young and inexperienced Hart to play than Green. As for his save in the second half. Any keeper should save a shot at that angle to the near post. He did us no favours tonight. Don't mean to come down hard or blame him but it's ALL HIS FAULT!!!!!!!

We now have to win both games and score more goals than the yanks. We don't want to play the winners of the other group:nono:

What did Terry do wrong?

I thought him and Johnson were Englands best players

Now that's more like it, let's concentrate on the positives.

Heskey was always seemed to be offside, missed a chance which at this level should be a goal. The only good part he got from the game was the assist.

Whats the name of the guy who was suppose to win the game single handedly according to everyone before the match ....... Rooney was it?.Was he even on the pitch!!! because he definitely wasn't in the game .But that's JMO.... very poor show from England as a team .This is not a moan but a mere observation

Playing like they did tonight ......i'd be surprised if they proceed past the group games

were you watching the right game.

that was a solid performance by england, not amazing but worthy of winning most games.

I'm not a big Heskey supporter but he won most balls often against 2 defenders, made some great passes and often took 2 defenders out of the game. Which is the job he was put there to do.

Maybe if Crouch had started we may have had more goals but who knows? Roll on the next game and lets take it from there.

I don't think we should get carried away one way or the other to be honest, although I do think if you looked at us defensively I don't think we look that much better than let's say Argentina who people were saying looking a little suspect this afternoon, and offensively we didn't create *that* much, and certainly if you take the Argies as an example they are far better going forward than we are.

We don't retain possession, we give the ball away too easily and when we don't have it we don't put enough pressure on the ball high enough up the pitch... But these are things that are endemic in our game, I've been thinking them for years, and ultimately these will stop us from winning a World cup!

Gerrard was excellent tonite, Heskey was very good, as was Johnson. Others were OK and the rest were average. That's our best, and it's not good enough, maybe good enough for quarters and with a little luck semi's but no further. We just have to get the media to understand that!

I think it was OK - not great but OK

Without the mistake from Green - that same performance would now see us with 3 points and people would be far less critical of how the team performed.

Brazil, Portugal, Holland, Spain and Italy are all in the other half of the draw and we can't meet any of them unless we get to the final.

In our half of the draw we have Argentina and Germany and (asuming they win their groups) we can't meet either of those till the semi final PROVIDING we win our group.

That's why tonight's game was so important.

Givvover, the only player you give a lower mark to is the flippin keeper, Heskey was captain assist all night long, Rooney was tag teamed out of the game but still gets 5, Carragher gets smoked down the wing and was saved by the keeper only plays half a game still gets 5, and Milner got smoked the whole time he was on the pitch which wasn't very long but still manages the same score as Heskey..... err nope..
I thought Wright Philips didn't add a great deal when he came on, lost possession too much running at defenders, had a shot on goal and side foot passed it to the keeper, still gets 6 though....

I dont rate Heskey, I would rather play Crouch or Defoe. Heskey is not a goalscorer, its ok playing the way that Heskey plays but without goals it is worthless. Maybe a tad harsh with a 4 but no more than a 5. Wright Philips runs at every ball, thats why I gave him that rating. The whole team should just of gotten a 4 to be honest, anything short of a win against the yanks is awful.

Just in after a quiet post match pint.

All good banter but plenty of USA flags/shirts not to mention 'ABE' on offer :baby:

Ho hum.

that was a solid performance by england, not amazing but worthy of winning most games.

That was the game I watched, England seemed to be on the attack all the time, the only reason they didn't score was the USA had 8 men in the way as soon as they got the equaliser.

Mind you that's the first game of football i've watched all the way through since the last world cup so what do I know :D

Well four pundits came to the same conclusion after the game so I'm more inclined to think we are right.

Overall not a bad performance by England last night and for me, something to be encouraged by. It was a game we could have won with the chances created and only conceded down to a howler from the keeper. There were plenty of solid individual performances and moments where we looked very good.

Well in all honesty, I thought that England played quite well. Yes of course it was not the performance we were all looking forward to, not the perfect game, however it was Ok. We also have to look at the other side of it - USA played EXCEPTIONALLY well and really did give England a hard time.

Personally I think that it was a good, action packed game and I am looking forward to the rest of the world cup, because it has only just kicked off and England will get better.

...USA played EXCEPTIONALLY well and really did give England a hard time.
They closed England down very well, often with three players hustling one and looked like they had fifteen outfield players. Excellent work rate and effort.

I thoghtthe USA went to pieces in the second half as they usually do.

Algeria and Slovenia looked poor, although Slovenia now lead the group :O

Hi. I've watched a couple of matches and make an observation. Has anyone else noticed that there is a constant noise of vuvuzealas on the broadcast but you never see any of the spectators blowing them? I reckon the sa tv company is just adding it to give it 'atmosphere' WDYT?

unfortunate result but overall it was a good performance for us, i think its some of the better football we've played for a long time.

i thought johnson played his arse off too. excellent performance.

the media slating green today is pathetic.

I know, but Germany losing always puts a smile on my face!! :D

I agree but obviously the Germans haven't read the script. 1-0.

Hmmm Germans are looking good.

Anyone seen this yet? Todays front page from the New York Post.....

Erm.....NO!!! :cuckoo:

It's pathetic that the us would celebrate a draw so much, and dempseys celebration from the goal was ridiculous, it was like he'd just scored a blinder. It was practically an own goal, act accordingly you numpty, you didn't score, green did

For them its the Cup final and for us its like a warm up match. And we still didn't win!

I....erm....yeah :suspect: I.....erm.....:exit:

Took me a whole 10 minutes to stick a border round it!
