I have just started experiencing issues with Aperture 3.1. Everything was fine until today when I tried to apply adjustments using brushes. As soon as I try my macbook pro just crashes.

Have tried uninstalling, repairing permissions etc but nothing seems to resolve the issue.

It's strange as I am able to apply adjustments to the whole image but not using brushes. Anyone got any ideas (apart from switching to Lightroom, have tried it but just can't get used to it:shrug:)??

Now I don't use apeture but I have heard something similar with lightroom and that turned out to be a faulty stick of ram, the ajustment brushes use a lot more than a normal ajustment (I'm led to believe) so it might just be something similar.
Not much help I'm afraid.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did upgrade the ram in the macbook to 8gb about 2 months ago, so i could try replacing the original sticks in and try again. Strange though as i don't have any other problems with other software and I run stuff like VMWare which eats a lot of ram.

Hi, I used to run aperture 3 on a macbook pro 15". I had loads of problems with it randomly crashing.
I phoned apple up, and they reckoned it might be to do with a dodgy import of my old iphoto library. tried re-importing it all, tried using it without my old photos etc, but it still kept crashing.
In the end i phoned apple up and made them give me a refund, which to be fair they did. Got LR3 instead, personally find it much easier to use.

Well tried the original 4gb of ram today in the macbook pro and still get the same result.

Have also created a new library and just added one photo to it but still get the same result.

Might have to take a trip to the apple store and see what they can do

It looks like the problem was with the MacBook pro. Took it in to an Apple store this afternoon, they are going to replace the logic board as there is something faulty with the graphics card.

Have to say i am impressed with apple. Took the MacBook in yesterday lunchtime. Got a call at 4pm to say they had replaced the logic board. Picked it up this afternoon after giving it a quick test and all looks good.

Just restoring from time machine backup after I reinstalled my ssd drive and swapped the DVD drive for a second hdd and replaced the 4gb of ram with 8gb.

Having said that I will still have a play with lightroom to see what all the fuss is about
