Isolation: Any Gamers? Even Old Ones?

So found a cheaper game pass unlimited method that would have saved me £40 if I found it yesterday…
Cheapest way I found and I've just done it, my ultimate expired last week.

Bought 9 x 3 month codes here:
eneba.com/gb/…als

Each time you redeem, it says it'll give you an extra month if you turn on automatic billing. I then disabled the automatic billing after each redemption.

I then upgraded to Game Pass Ultimate for £10.99.

Total amount for 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate:
£65 + £10.99

PS: Accidentally bought another code if anyone wants it
Found it on hot uk deals - link

And it seems you can get Forza 7 digital download, on cdkeys (Linky) instead of the official marketplace.

UPDATE: wow - it looks like Microsoft have actually thought about this.....s/X Series games "need" the speed of the internal drive, "legacy" games don't. So I can move anything to the SSD. Dishonored 2 and Bridge Portal Constructor run perfectly. CoD (Crossgen) has a strange sort of symbol over the icon in the top right and won't launch. Move it back to internal (which takes c 10 mins) and it runs fine.
Reading up on this, each game has metadata which tags what type of game it is, it can be "XboxOneGen9Aware" or "XboxGen9". XboxOneGen9Aware games can be moved to the external drive and played from there.
XboxGen9 games can be moved to an external drive and then moved back to local drive, so at least saves a 100gb download...
I thought my downloads may be quick given I have a 500Mbps connection, but a few hours into downloading the games I noticed is was only getting around 75Mbps. Whether this was due to MS, Virgin or on my side I'm not sure, but 75Mbps means 3hours plus to download a 100gb file.
Out of interest I calculated how long it would take on old school 56k dial up - over 5 months! I filled my hard drive in couple of days, thats nearly 5 years of downloads on dial up...

I have also found that Microsoft dont do any region locking. So codes bought for the Argentina region can be added to your account using an Argentine VPN, then you can play as normal, no more VPN's needed. That means Elden Ring is around £30 - and Witcher just £1.50!

As if we all needed more free games......

Amazon Prime Gaming (yes, it's a thing - they hide it pretty well) are giving away Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor this month. Just go over to their Gaming page and if you have prime, claim the game. You'll get a code to redeem at GOG.com and it gets added to your account. It's like Epic free games - claim it this month and it's yours "forever".

Obviously, you'll need
  1. a GOG account
  2. Prime - though the trial version will do
Coincidentally, MESoM is reduced to 4 quid at the moment if you want to buy it :) But every little helps, right?

None one, going to have a look tonight.

If you don't have the Witcher yet, it's a very good time to buy. £6.99 from Microsoft for the next few days for the goty edition with dlc. Plus on 14 th December you'll be eligible for the next gen upgrade free.

Is that the Witcher 3 the deal is for? I've also spotted a deal on the trilogy for £7.45 which is 84% off. Apparently there's a mod to bring it to VR, but it looks to me like a game that would be awesome being properly developed for VR.

Some good Steam deals going, I've bought a few recently but struggling to find time to play any. If you've not already got it I would highly recommend This War of Mine. Very emotional and addictive, game.

This War of Mine has 85% off at £1.33

Recently bought:
Red Dead Redemption 2 has 67% off at £18.14 (bought and played it on my son's X-Box but always wanted it for PC and have been waiting ages for a big sale. Visuals on the PC are epic)
Cyberpunk 2077 50% off at £24.99 (it's a good game but like GTA is becoming a little repetitive if you wander away from missions and play sandbox style)
The Forest 77% off at £3.56 (haven't played it yet)

Haven't bought yet but watching:
Valheim 30% off at £10.84 (good reviews)
Disco Elysium 75% off at £8.74 (looks very charismatic)
Dune: Spice Wars 20% off at £19.99 (I think it needs more work though first. Reminds me of the classic Dune 2 that I loved as a kid)

Recent VR purchases but I've not had a chance to play yet:
Contractors VR 40% off at £9.29
Into the Radius 30% off at £16.65
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners with 74% off at £18.26 for an ultimate bundle

Some good Steam deals going
I've found Green Man Gaming to be slightly cheaper than Steam (e.g. RDR2 is £16) and they (mostly) issue you with a Steam code so you end up on the same platform anyway.

I picked up Frostpunk, Insurmountable & TW: Thrones of Britannia, none of which have been played yet due to my obsession with Project Zomboid... 1300 hours so far :(

Red Dead screenshot from a few minutes ago. Better than my A9 can produce haha

I really enjoyed Frostpunk, you could tell it was the same developer as This War of Mine just from the atmosphere and style. I've got Frostpunk 2 on my wish list and waiting patiently!

If you're into vr, then viveport is worth a look.

A year will cost you about £90 with access to a lot of games plus keep into the radius and song in the smoke.

I've often wondered whether there should be a "Show Us Your Screenshots" thread or whether that is skirting the lines of "what is photography?"

KSP (KSP2 coming soooon!)

BTW if you have Gamepass then Gungrave G.O.R.E. is one of the most ridiculous games I've ever played. Great fun in small doses as long as you ignore the story and skip all the cut scenes. Exhausting, though.

You're not the first to notice this, during lock down several street photographers went into RDR2 to get their fix.

Not bad for a game that was launched four years ago! The Unreal Engine 5 looks incredible:

I finished Cyberpunk this week. It's taken me roughly 2 years on 2 different platforms (started on PC - switched to XBox) and at least 3 starts.

I know it has many many critics and still unresolved bugs but it's the only game I've ever played where I was sad to finish it. Without spoiling it for others, I finished riding into the storm with the Aldecados and a talking gun. I was genuinely sad to leave Night City and the messages at the end were amazing - lots of characters popping up and reminding me of stories that I hadn't pursued or that didn't end up the way I wanted. I was left thinking of all the choices I'd made and how things could have worked out differently.

I'll probably play it again in a couple of months and try a different path - and I don't think I've ever felt that about any other game.

Can't wait for the DLC with Idris Elba.....

Congratulations!

I played Cyberpunk as a tabletop RPG when it was launched back in 1988 and was really excited by the game launch videos. Sadly though, I'm not twitchy enough to play FPS style stuff.

Recently bought Red Faction from GOG(used to be called Good Old Games) for less than £2. As it is from 2001 the graphics aren't anywhere near current games but the feel is good and fun to play.

With less and less free time I’m finding myself picking up the oled switch more often than PC gaming. I love the idea of immersing myself in football manager or another huge title, but life means popping in and out of fifa, Mario kart etc is more of the reality for me these days.

You got to watch Cyberpunk Edgerunner, anime is not my style but this is such a brilliant show. First few episodes drew me in with the way they talk like in the game, but the characters and story kept me invested until the very end.

Cyberpunk has kind of taken a back seat for me. I think it was becoming too repetitive, well the side missions were, and then when I started seeing people and cars just appearing and disappearing from thin air it really ruined the whole "living city" effect as opposed to it not happening within sight. RDR2 does a much better job I reckon. The short range of sniper weapons is annoying as well. Maybe I'll go back to it and have another try if I get the time and focus more on the main storyline.

Same here, time is always so limited. This is why I like the VR stuff, the battery only lasts for a while before needing to be recharged and whilst I could add battery packs I prefer that it currently governs how long I play. Some games also give you a mild workout as well, such as Walking Dead where you are swinging away! lol

Im loving the oled switch the wife got me for Christmas! Im about half way through assassins creed Black Flag and very much enjoying it!

Yeah the sniper weapons are crazy. Get within touching distance only to find the silencer didn't work and you have one feeble shot and then get piled on.

I came up with a nice technique with knives. It meant with care I could take out groups silently. Take down on one as a system reset hit the second then throwing knife to the head of the third before they could react :)

Yeah it's nuts. I've got the Smart Sniper Rifle which makes it kind of easy. There's also that arm tranquiliser thing which ruins it a little as you can take them all out with one shot each and none of them react. Bit of a bug that one.

Somehow I've missed most of the hype surrounding Atomic Heart. Uninstalled Cyberpunk to make space for the 80GB it needs ready for launch day.

It looks.....odd. Also hard, beautiful and amazing. But mostly odd.

That's some visuals in Atomic Heart, I thought it could be Unreal Engine 5 but it's still 4.

It is incredibly pretty. Apparently the ray tracing isn't yet available on PC but looks pretty nice even on my console.

It's also very odd. The reviews seem accurate - part hard (failed) stealth game with tricky 1st person melee / part (could be irritating) puzzler.

Fun when you eventually get a gun :)

The reviews on Atomic Heart are all over the place, swinging from 9 down to 4 site depending, does look nice and maybe I'll give it a try as it's on GP

How far have you got?
I payed it for a couple of hours on a switch and didn’t immediately get hooked.
Taken me a while to get into it proper but have persevered and am already 60 hours in and barely feel like ive scratched the surface!

Keep saying I’m going to buy it, while also waiting for the price to drop.. which it never seems to do. Will likely buy it for my holiday in august. Will give me something to do when everyone goes to bed, as I’m not much of a sleeper

I keep replaying the last of us on my Ps3.

Such a great game.

As Atomic Heart is on Game Pass, I'm just downloading it now to give it a go.
How are you doing?

Played a fair bit on release day then went to other stuff and just picked it up again yesterday.

Got stuck on a puzzle. I knew I had to move balls down a tube but I couldn't get them into the tube so after 30 mins or so I googled it. "this is the first puzzle most people get stuck on - mostly because there's a bug where often you can't get the ball into the tube....."

Aaaah, living on the bleeding edge........

Ah, that's a shame, I was looking forward to Redfall.

10 mins in and I've found a bug that lets you get infinite ammo/health/anything. Also, the reviewers are not being kind :(
