Yesterday I learnt that my sister, who is a few years older then me, died suddenly last week.
I haven't seen her for a very long time due to having an overbearing meddlesome mother who spent
most if her life at my sisters house virtually ruling it for her and her family.
I had always hoped that we could patch things up once my mother had gone as did my other sister.
But seems she is still living at the the age of 90 in a nursing home suffering from dementia for the last 3 years.
Yes I am saddened by the missed opportunity, but I will not be making contact with my mother, the good thing is I am now
in contact with my niece, and have met an old school mate who I had lost contact with.

Families can be absolutely s***.
I'm very pleased you've got something positive out of this.

That's a very sad story and unfortunately not that uncommon either.

We are all individuals with likes, dislikes, choices in life to make etc. it just always seems worse when it involves our own family members. (you can chooses your friends........)

Life is too short to be unhappy, so whatever decisions we do make have to be right for us at the time, even if that means not everyone is as comfortable with the decision as we are.

Whether we see our family members regularly, or not, they are still family & I guess you were in your Sister's thoughts as often as she was in yours.
Try to remember any happy occasions you had together & try not to dwell on any negatives.

Condolences.

That's a really sad story Ingrid,
I'm sorry to hear that :(

I'm glad though that a little positive "something" came out of it :)

Very sad indeed Ingrid.

Sorry to hear that Ingrid, but a real positive that you can now forge a relationship with your Niece.

Really sad Ingrid as Chris said a little something positive came out of it

Thanks Guys, hopefully we will all keep in touch now, life goes on :)
