I'm going to visit the Isle of Arran either later on this week or early next week (depending on the weather!).

I used to spend my summer holidays there when I was but a lad (my Gran lived in Lamlash) and I'm going back for a visit, taking my dog with me.

I'm only going to be there for the day (first ferry over, last ferry back giving me a maximum of 12 hours on Arran.

I'll definitely be visiting Lamlash and the standing stones on Machrie Moor. Does anyone who's been to (or lives on) Arran have any suggestions of good things to photograph (landscapes & scenery, not people!)

brodick castle of course is nice and there are some of the poisonous (bright red) and attractive-to-children-mushrooms around there too.

sometimes, at the top of goat fell, you can get a cracking view into the abtural harbour area and I've seen a type 42 navy ship there once before.

What memories. I was brought up near Kilmarnock and went to Arran quite often with the school to stay in a croft and climb Goat Fell. I'll look forward to seeing your photos.

Are you taking your car over?

If not the local bus service isn't very frequent, and you will have difficulty doing everything in a day.

The first and last ferries can be extremely busy - it's easy to get caught out and find you can't get back to the mainland.
