Anyone use them/rate them?

I recently bought some and was testing them for the first time last night on my yn-460 II and yn-465 flashes and they only seem to fire about 3/4 of the time.

I tried a different channel and also just using the test button on the transmitter with the same results. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if they just don't work properly. :|

I'm going to try them a bit more at weekend and if I don't see an improvement I'm sending them back

Hi Doug

I have used my set of 3 receivers for hundreds of shots and the only times a flash hasn't gone off was due to flash going into sleep mode.

Maximum range I have probably used them up to would be around 6m.

Just a thought, are you using them anywhere there could be a lot of radio interference? Microwaves, wireless routers or wireless phone's for example.

Andy

Forgot to add that I am using 3 different flashes. A 430 EX II, jessops 360 AFD and a YN 460 II

I am obviously a bit doppy tonight. just thought of something else. The flashes are having enough time to recycle before you are trying to trigger them again?

I've never had any reports of failure of the Ishoot-style PT-04, are you finding that they just don't work at all sometimes or is it that you fire them say 20 times and you're getting 5 misfires out of the 20?

See Andy's post above for where I was going with this line of enquiry, not allowing enough time for the flashes to recycle is the usual cause of random misfires

Thanks for the replies. :)

I'm finding that I'm getting some misfires in some rounds of shots of differing numbers, it's not a consistent thing. It's not the flash recycle times because the test light on the receiver isn't lighting when it misfires. I just tested them at a distance though and neither fire at all. I could be wrong but I've got a funny feeling it might be the transmitter battery.

Will replace and see.

The transmitter battery is a weak point, as they come fitted from the factory so can be flat by the time they reach the end user if they've sat on a shelf for a year or more. The transmitters themselves can also fail, although they can usually be coaxed back into life....

I have used these on a few shoots. They haven't been great. Regularly stopped working (Speedlite set to not go to sleep). Getting them to work again meant turning the speedlite on and off or disconnecting and reconnecting the flash from the transmitter. I got around 600 shots before I had to replace the batteries in the Speedlite transmitter.

They're cheap so don't expect much from them. Poorly made, but for the money...well, compare the price to Pocket Wizards or a Canon/Nikon alternative.

One strange thing I have found is that a light tap of the battery cover on the Speedlite transmitter fires the flash. I think it is down to the bad connections and cheap parts used. They're okay if you have patient clients!

I needed them urgently, but if you don't, save your money for something better.

I read mixed reviews of the transmitters, so I may have received a bad set. I can't imagine QC being a top priority.
