Is your wireless router not working very well lately?

No
Mine's only had a low signal for the last couple of days.

Didn't bother me too much, but yesterday I was listening to MP3s across my LAN, and the connection kept dropping. Never done that before.

Anyhoo, I got to thinking; "what the hell has changed over the last few days?". Looking around I could think of nothing out of order. Then I remembered a couple of years ago when I did desktop support, going out to a customer who had the same problem, removing a tin tray they'd conveniently leaned up against the wireless router, and charging them nearly £50 for the inconvenience.

Nope - router's where its always been. No rogue trays lying around. All of a sudden, it hit me (not the tray - something else). I looked upwards to see several shiny Christmas decorations dotted about the ceiling. This may explain why my laptop worked perfectly well in the same room, yet my desktop PC two floors up was having problems.

I thought of ripping the damn things down, but that was a bit 'scrooge'. So I sought to wiggle the router antenna a bit.

Rejoice! Choruses of Angels and all that nonsense. Full signal strength again!!

The moral of this story - TURN BUDDHIST AND AVOID THIS CRAP COMPLETELY! :D

- Or pay a fortune for better antenna :p

;)

I've been getting issues with people all around me going wireless :(

I can see 12 wireless networks now

My router lives upstairs with the main PC so I should be saved from the signal refelction issues

If the router is powered on and off daily it might also have been the cycle of hot/cold expand/contract causing the antennas' connection to break apart a fraction?

Wireless LAN , Bluetooth, Video senders, Home RF,Microwave Ovens. They all work around the 2.4GHz band so its going to get worse & worse. I can see myself having to cable the house in the not to distant future :(

I already have - phones, network, all patched back to the office. Wireless access point sits in the living room so I don't have to reach behind the sofa for some cable when I want to jump online!
Guess it's easy when it's part of your job though. Feel free to ask if you ever need a hand! :)

I've done some speed tests throughout the day, and I seem to be getting 1mb or slightly less. Now I'm paying for 2mb with virgin. A couple of months a go I got myself a wireless router etc..Since i've stopped using the Speed modem supplied by virgin, I've seemed to slow a bit, was getting 2.2mb on the other modem.????
