Is UEFA bluffing or very serious?

I did read the report later.
Unfortunately only covers behaviour inside the stadia.

Russian fans targeted england fans inside and out.. there will be no more trouble inside the grounds as russia and england wont meet again. (eufa know that) . so they can carry on in the streets with no fear of being kicked out...

Before 23rd June - Bluffing

After 23rd June - Very Serious

Aw, you lost. They weren't bluffing after all and it's not even the 23rd June yet! Cough up the poker chips. :-)

So UEFA did really decided to go ahead with their threat. But is there a difference between a "suspended disqualification" and an actual disqualification?

Also it seems it only applies if rioting happens within a stadium, not away from any stadiums and outside of football match hours.

Suspended means that, if it happens again, they'e out.

UEFA have no jurisdiction outside of the stadia

But Russia will play against Wales on 20th June.

Would Russians target or leave alone the Welsh? After all, to everyone else outside of UK, Welsh and English are just the same thing as British. It may be why UEFA gave the suspended disqualification if Russia still can't tell the difference between British and English, and still think Welsh count as English? Who knows?

Suspended means that, if it happens again, they'e out.

Ah I see. So basically the same thing as saying in other words: "Do it one more time and your favourite team is out of the Euro!", that sort of last chance warning?

They arnt targeting welsh.. just english..

wash your mouth out hahaha no there not.. welsh dont have a hooligan reputation like the english do.. the russians are trying to prove a point that doesnt work against the welsh...

To put it another way.. the welsh , scots or irish arn't hated like the english are..

So the Russians can tell the different between Welsh and English? That's good, and let's hope so. After all, sometimes other people thinks that because Wales and England are part of the UK of GB, therefore they're the same.

Reminds me of that Torchwood: Miracle Day 2nd episode Rendition. :-) Love what Gewn did in that episode.

Anyway, so if the Russians knows the Welsh are different from the English, and like you say, the Welsh are not that hated by the Russians, then great.

But still, maybe that's what the suspended disqualification is there for, just in case the Russians thinks the Welsh are same as English? Could still be in force for in case Russians want to beat up Slovakia fans.

Otherwise what's the point of a suspended disqualification if Russia and England are not going to play again, unless they both get to meet again in the knockout stage, but what are the chances of them meeting up again?

haha seriously.. how do the russions know they are english or welsh and not fench or german? they dont interview them.. they can see from shirts and flags.. wales are totally different to english visually...

the russians causing the trouble are there to target english fans.. they have said so themselves... they have pics posted with all the flags they have stolen.. all english st georges.... no other country... (look for upside down englsh flags)

Oh of course, I've forgotten about fans wearing football shirts! Sorry, stressful week for me and not thinking clear. Must've been reading too much war comics during my childhood, those moments where a German officer interviewing a British soldier would say stuff like "You English will lose the war!" to which the soldier would reply "I'm Scottish/Welsh!" and fought back, then escaped!

Yeah, you're right, what am I thinking? Shirts and flags and facepainting. Yeah, you're right.

Wondering what President Vladimir Putin is going to say. I can image he's going to be saying it should be England who should be getting the suspended disqualification.

Fairly pointless to eject them from the tournament I'd have thought.
Those intent on causing trouble won't leave.
If anything, just start deporting Brits and Russians (from these areas) en masse.

That is actually quite a good idea.
When there was fan trouble in the past, teams used to play in an empty stadium behind closed doors as a penalty.
If the English and Russian fans are causing trouble then round them up and send them home.
I can imagine the England Wales match being played in a stadium full of Welsh fans - at least the singing would be a lot better than usual.

This article in the Guardian highlights a potential, and avoidable problem.

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-euro-2016-disqualification-fined-150000-uefa

Russian fans have now begun gathering in Lille before their match against Slovakia on Wednesday.

England fans have also been advised to head for the French city if they don’t have a ticket for their match with Wales in Lens on Thursday, raising fears of further violence.

So, who on earth thought up that great idea, apart from someone who wanted to see a rematch between the two sets of fans.

It appears that the ticket allocation problem was known about months ago.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...sregard-for-the-law-leads-to-serious-securit/

Uefa has been taking legal action to prevent the unauthorised re-sale of Euro 2016 tickets and announced earlier this month it had received alerts about numerous attempts to sell England fans tickets allocated to Russia supporters for the countries’ potentially powder-keg opening clash in Marseille.

The Football Association is also understood to be seriously concerned about the prospect of England supporters unwittingly finding themselves sitting among rival spectators in France.

It seems that the FA was fully aware of the possibility of violence in the stadium, but chose to do nothing about it.

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/england/sto...ns-warned-over-unauthorised-euro-2016-tickets

UEFA officials have received alerts about numerous attempts to sell tickets to English fans which had been allocated to Russian supporters, which despite the security measures in place could see those supporters who bought on the black market end up in the wrong section of the ground.
"There is a high risk that even if genuine tickets are delivered, supporters will find themselves with tickets for enclosures reserved for opposing fans."

Russia will target the nationals of whichever country their team are playing.
They are, quite literally, professional hooligans.

Gobsmacked by the Russian player saying it was 50/50... Surely UEFA should take some action on that.

Any chance of Fifa taking the World Cup away?

No way they do that. Although I think they should, and also for quatar which has a shocking human rights record. The situation is just shameful.

I'm sorry too, for stating a fact, but English, Welsh... They are still British.
I'm certainly not apologising for using a factual term, especially as you have no way of knowing if those involved are English, Welsh or any other nationality.

Sorry but I think you're wrong. When the team being supported is Great Britain then I'm proud to be regarded as a British supporter(Olympics, etc). When the home nations are competing then then it is no longer regarded as British but Welsh, Scottish, English, Irish.

Using your argument, would you be content for a news article to state that the Europeans are all rioting in the street even if it was only the French. Factually it might be correct but not an honest indication of the perpetrators.

Your second point is also flawed if you've seen the numerous clips and news articles coming out of Bordeux.

Don't get me wrong that I think the English fans are being treated unfairly as the Ultras are definitely instigating the violence...but still it's not the British that are involved. ;)

Irish is never British. It is Northern Ireland that is part of the UK, not Ireland.

Well maybe, I can't comment on Wales fans at tournaments, but I think you'll find a different experience with Russian or Polish fans.

As someone who has seen a fair few matches when my team has played Cardiff, those Welsh Cardiff fans are some of the worst around, I remember it being like a war zone at Loftus Road a few years ago - I accept it's not the same, but I suspect a lot of those fans have travelled.

That said, I hope you have a good time and it continues as you say, the way it should be.

Going back a few years I would have agreed with you completely as it was the reason I refused to take my son to Cardiff Matches. They have cleaned it up considerably in the last 3-4 years however and is a much happier and friendlier environment...Unless Swansea come to visit. To be honest I've never understood the violent mentality of sports 'fans'. At least in my chosed sport of Ice Hockey, the violence stays on the ice. ;)

OK.....I'll try again.
Forget the football forget the people watching.
Forget the media.
It is a fact that anyone from England, Wales or Scotland is British.
You may not like it but that is irrelevant.
So, to go back to the matters in France right now, calling any of the "fans" from England, Wales or Scotland "British" is entirely accurate.

And European and Human using the same logic.Ok, so I admit I'm not sure if some of them are Human going on the way they behave!

It's funny however, that David Beckham was always referred to as English in the English press and never British. The England team who won a certain cup in 66 are referred to as English players and not British.

When Wales win the Euro ;) should they be referred to Welsh or British?

Well you are just arguing for argument sake. What does it say on the past passport word. It's factually correct. :boring:

Sorry dejongi if you think I'm arguing for arguments sake! Ruth has taken in the way that it's meant. It's possible to have a difference of opinion without making it personal and still have a laugh about it.

And I have no idea what password you're talking about? ;) My 'password' says British because we're not allowed to have a Welsh one. :p

Sorry that meant to say passport. And yes indeed it say British, same as it says on the door of the embassy when as a football supporter abroad you require assistance following an arrest. And so on.

And my family is from Wales as well going back 1647.

I must be having a bad night! :police:

So assuming you watch rugby and the six nations would you refer to yourself as an English/Wales/Scotland fan or a British fan?

My family date back to Italy originally so maybe I have no right to consider myself as Welsh or British. C'mon Italia! ;)

Sorry for derailing this thread, but Russia played today and there is no violence reported ... although a flare was fired in the stadium. I wonder if that will be ignored by UEFA.

The French security wants slapping for that.

Some questions are better not asked :)

My passport, long expired, said 'British (Welsh)' :)

FFS children, can you stop squabbling over this English/Welsh/British thing? Or take it out your a different thread? Or at least wait until Wimbledon when you can argue about whether Andy Murray is Scottish or British.
