Canon Zoom Lens EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II made in japan, is this the ultimate DSLR lens what any budding tog have in there bag and what kind if price would you pay for it, is there a similer one.

Regards Mark

I've no idea re Canon lenses, but I still have the 28-105mm 1:3.5-4.5 and still think it's a great walkabout portrait lens. It proably isn't wide enough to be a true all prupose walkabout on a DX format body,a nd now I have the Sigma 50-150 1:2.8 it'll get used even less, but it's still a nice compact lens. I going to put it on my D70 and use the combo as my main 'snap' camera outfit.

What is an ultimate lens ? Can that do macro? Not really. Can it do wildlife? not really. Is the aperture constant throughout the zoom ? No. Is it wide enough on crop sensor to do landscapes? Not really.

But do you want it ? ...

That's the deciding factor really :)

The 25-105 F4 L IS is the lens to have comes with the 5d in a package, sort of the professional version of the 28-105.

I have the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II (although mine is made in Taiwan). And I am very happy with it, definately not L quality, but a great upgrade to the kit lens.

I'm not sure if they make them in Japan anymore, I think the recent onmes have come from Taiwan.

As for what to expect to pay, I got mine for £85 on eBay, so you pick up some real bargains with this lens. The only downside is that it is not very wide, but I complemented it with a Sigma 10-20, so no issue for me, but you would struggle with this for landscape.

Another option you want to look at is the Sigma 17-70, another good lens, with abit more on the wide end.

Hi i think the 17-70 would be good for me as when i go out it;s usually to a view and i wide angle would be good,

regards Mark.

personally i would think the 24-70 would be a better lens for myself, but down to individual tastes, i prefer the lower fixed apertures.

i don't know what you are asking tbh, the 28-105 is a cheap 'budget' lens, the 24-105 F/4 is a much better lens though, better optical and build quality and it has L status, i love mine.

i dunno why i put that lol, it just means it's part of canons 'luxury' range

Everyone knows that the red strip is like a go faster sticker and makes your photos better :)
