Is this the best opening movie scene ever?

Yep, no messing about, loved these films as a kid and watch all of Eastwoods films with my mum, who was a fan! Nice reminder!

One should never underestimate ones opponent!

The best opening scene in a film is the first 20 minutes of Inglorious Basterds. Those 20 minutes are the finest thing Tarantino has ever done.

So many good ones. Among my personal favourites are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bladerunner and, for sheer audacity The Spy Who Loved Me.

It's very powerful, especially when the noise is turned right up and on surround sound. It really makes you feel the fear.

Totally agree, really really good. The impending doom from the moment Hans Landa (Christopher Walz) walks into that house, absolutely brilliant and very powerful.
 
Gladiator is a good shout, but I also like Django Unchained. The 'dentist' is a great character :)
 
Surely this is the best? Not swashbuckling or blood-laden but sheer class.


It may not be the opening scene but close enough to set the premise of the film.

The opening scenes of the first The Matrix (especially seen for the first time). It's the sheer unexpectedness of Carrie-Ann Moore running round the wall...

One thing I spotted in that clip, she's standing at the end of the mole? in a howling wind with waves crashing over her and is dry as a bone!

Johnny Depps boat is still moving forward even though it's sinking. Just another goof.
 
Certainly is a good one, to balance things up how about a classic closing scene

A goof is a mistake. Saying Jonny Depps boat still moving after it sunk is a goof is like saying the enterprise traveling at warp speed whatever is a goof. Its clearly not.
