I have had a Metz for the Canon and it was excellent, I have heard nothing but good reports for the Yongnuo speedlights, I have heard of Meike being good also but are these as good as what is written on paper or are they rubbish, It says it has all the functionality of an SB900-910 BUT..............has it at less than £100 I am taking a gamble and trying it, model in question is this one Mcoplus Meike MK-910 i-TTL Flash Speedlite 1/8000s GN60
Have I bought wisely or wasted my money
 
I am interested in this too - I have an SB700 but want something that is more powerful and can take an external battery pack, so the SB900/910 or the SB5000 fit the bill, but at a price..
I seem to remember reading that third party flashguns rarely have the quoted power, and certainly don't have the same sort of build quality. I also read that third party battery packs seem to recharge flashguns slower than the mega expensive Nikon ones.

Free lunches are a rare thing, but personal experience would be good to hear !

Have used the yongnuo for Nikon and was happy with that, have since bought a shanny and it is not a bad flash forcthe money. Not tried the meike.
 
I have just been reading some reviews and checking some videos and they do seem to be remarkably good, only downside is they are not quite as powerful as the real SB910 but more than adequate
 
Its arrived, super fast delivery from Amazon, only ordered it yesterday, anyway first impressions are very good, absolutely all the features of a real SB910 and the build quality feels pretty good, not the cheap plastic feel with some budget equipment, very solid feel to it and even the rear screen comes with a proper protector on, I will have to read the manual to get to know it and the manual is very good quality too, so overall first impressions are, this is a very well made quality SB910 clone, the only difference from the real thing is a few menus look different and obviously the branding, but most important,,,,,,,,,,,the price as its a quarter the price of the real thing

When you get a chance can you see roughly how long it takes to recharge after a full-power flash please? This is one of my biggest requirements and would be my main reason for getting something expensive and that can take a battery pack..

Just dropped some rechargeable batteries in and the cycle is virtually instant on all settings, I was expecting a high pitched buzz after it pressed but it just cycled straight away and continued to flash away
 
Here come the problems, although all the reviews say it IS compatible with the D2X..............it isn't, I have now tried it on the camera and it refuses to fire, no mater how I set it either TTL or M S1 or S2 it will not work on the D2X so I dug a little deeper online and found out that lots of people returned the unit as they had similar issues and it may be part of a faulty batch that don't work on the D2X, so I have tried it on the wifes D3200 and hey presto it functions flawlessly on her camera.
Now I have emailed the seller to see what can be done as it looks like I have a unit they say works on a D2X but its not compatible as they say it is suitable for all Nikons?

What a disappointment for you.
Lets hope it is just a faulty unit, but it may stay in your head as a slight worry, and could be part of the reason that many will pay more for a Nikon unit..
Thanks for letting me know about the recycling - having read your reply about it recycling quickly I was about to order one myself, but now am not so sure..
 
On the wifes D3200 it is an awesome bit of kit, very fast and does everything they say, its just not compatible to my D2X so don't think its faulty, simply not compatible, what camera were you going to use it on Steve
 
Having tried this on my wifes D3200 and my D7000 it really does deliver the goods, the flash isn't quite as powerful as the real Nikon SB 910 on full power but everything else seems to match it, its just sad that it wont work on a D2X and probably other older camera bodies, in respect its a damn good flash unit for the money.
 
Really impressed with the Godox TT685's. Supports wireless TTL and HSS, feels and, more importantly, just as good as my SB700 in the hand.
