It could be all manner of things wrong... if it was something simple to diagnose like the AF has stopped working but it MF ok then fine you could hang a price for a new AF motor etc etc but this one could have one or many problems. It could be a worthwhile punt but it could be scrap too. As Flash says "I don't know, you don't know and the seller doesn't know....."

Apart from the price, why would you want it?..It may never work again as it should.

If you can afford to lose the money go for it, personally i would save the money towards something new or second hand :)

As far as I know, if they're dropped, then they're designed to break off rather than tear the mount from the camera. So I'd guess that putting it back together wouldn't be *that* expensive. But as has been pointed out before, neither you, the seller or anyone else knows what else is wrong with it.

Let's assume that a mint secondhand version has a value of £475. Let's also assume that the repair cost of putting this one together again is £175, and it's already pushing £200 to buy it on eBay. That's £100 less than buying a mint one and you've no idea if it's going to be ok... I don't think so :suspect:

I'd just forget it.

cheers

if it was around £50 worth a gamble but at nearly £200. never in a millon years

I was expecting a £50 sale, but yes I was very surprised it reached that much. Oh well, good luck to the buyer. Nowadays some things sell for incredibly high prices on fleabay, even more than brand new.

The seller doesn't know....yeah right.
You don't need to be Einstein to figure out whether its been broken in two or dismantled.
The seller doesn't want to say, obviously a dismantled one is likely to be undamaged compared with one dropped from 40 feet, that could be knackered all over the place.

40 foot barge pole, same distance it fell..

I think that for someone who sells lots of camera gear that they would no if its broken or dismantled. Save your money!!!!

mmmm, me thinks this might be making another appearance on flea-bay, perhaps in one piece, but stopped working  or having sold the camera the seller has no way of confirming it works or doesn't , or is it just me being cynical
