Edit My Images
Yes
After getting some good shots at Brands Hatch at the weekend I decided to pop into the local print shop at lunchtime. They have said they are interested in the photo's and have asked for a CD containing all my images (which i will watermark) and will print the ones they like and hang them in their shop. Any prints of them that they sell I will get 20%. Is that about right?

What should I be aware of in any contract between myself and them as this is the first time i'll be attempting to sell images.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm guess it depends on how much you value the shots yourself. Personally I wouldnt take just 20% - yes they have to go to print them, but that is about all. 80% for printing some photos and taking the money sounds way OTT to me! It would be a way to get your name out there if there was some sort of sign saying photographs by you and your url. But still 20% seems VERY small to me :(

I wasn’t too sure if 20% was that fair or not. Maybe once he's looked at the photo's on the cd I can haggle for say 30-35% then??

And should that % be of the cost of the print or of the profit he will be making on that print as they might be a huge difference.

Thanks for the quick response.

Whilst its a small point, are you invalidating any terms that you unwittingly agreed to as part of buying the ticket?

Depends what the price of the print is pitched at. They have some costs - printing. They'll want a margin and you want a margin.

I would ask for 50% of the profit and make sure the printing costs aren't calculated at retail either. It's worth keeping in mind that on average a retailer can expect 15% profit from a sale and this guy is asking for a lot more than that :(

Thanks for raising that point. I rang the press office at brands today and they have said that because I was in the public viewing area's then it's fine for me to sell the photo's.

I will be e-mailing them later to get that confirmed in writing though.

fingers crossed now :D

thanks for the advice everyone. will be taking a disc to the print shop tomorrow afternoon. so will haggle once he's seen the photo's.
