Is this Camera and lens worth it?

Sorry to ask this question again, this will be the third time I will be asking it. I did ask the question twice in the Fujifilm section, but no one answered it, and it seems to have just blended in with all the other posts, so I don't think it will be spotted now.

So as I say, sorry to ask the question again. So here goes, as I really am debating to get it or not. I am really wanting to try a Fujifilm again. I have spotted a Fujifilm X-T20 with the XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens. It is priced at £499 and described as a clearance item.

I know in another post I said I wanted to try out an X100, although I have been keeping track of the X100S model. But the S model has gone for more than I wanted to pay, so I did not bother bidding on any. Anyway, I spotted the X-T20 with kit lens, for not that much more than an old used X100S models were going for. So I thought, why not go for that instead.

So, is it a good deal or not?

Yes (from another thread) means the X-T20 - IMHO this deal is not that great the X-T20 when in stock is £299 in the Fuji Refurb store, and that lens is not worth £200. You would be much better with the pairing the refurb store camera with a s/h 18-55mm at around £220

But the OP would effectively be replacing like for like- his crop sensor DSLR with kit lens for a crop sensor Fuji with 'kit' lens

Jon. you need to evaluate what you really want - if you want the 'Fuji' experience then fair enough, but you wouldn't really have that with the 15-45mm lens as the aperture is controlled from the camera (just like your Nikon) and not from the ring around the lens.

The X-T20 is a nice camera - my wife has one - buts its not an X100 series camera. If you want an X100 series camera, then just take your time, and one will come up.

That was one of the things bugging me, as I really would love the aperture ring function.

Thanks for your comment .

I just thought it was a good deal, seeing the camera was brand new. It is obviously a clearance item, one of the last few remaining probably. I must admit, the lens was the only thing off putting. I know the X-T20 can be had for £299, but the camera I spotted was brand new.

Yes, as @Mr Perceptive noted, I suppose it would be replacing like for like, seeing I already have a DSLR and kit lens.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The Fuji Refurb store equipment is usually indistinguishable from new, the only 'real' difference is that its often supplied in a non-original box.

That option would be better, then I can have my lens of choice, as you already mentioned. :)

Agree - everything I have got has been as new and service excellent

It is annoying that a lot of the shops have a decent camera, that they combine with a c**p lens. Probably done that way on purpose, in the hopes that people get frustrated with the kit lens, then start purchasing better lenses.

I wished I would have been able to purchase the FUJIFILM X-E3 and XF 23 mm f/2 R WR Lens. Sold as a package and It was only £629.00 with £90 cash back. This was back in November 2019. Came with two years Guarantee, from John Lewis.

But, I did not have the money at the time. :(

Are you set on the "S" iteration of the X100? With so many in the series there'll be one to fit any budget. They're great cameras, and I've only owned the lowly original one!

I was originally, but I am now looking at other fuji options.

One thing that I have a problem getting over is the possibility of getting sensor contamination when using a fixed lens camera. I know contamination is less likely to happen but in my mind it could and then it'll be very difficult to remove and could well mean an expensive trip to the repair centre. For this reason I'm reluctant to spend a lot on a fixed lens camera although I do have a Panasonic TZ100. So, if tempted by a fixed lens camera I'd look for something that I could buy instead... like a reasonably compact camera and lens combination.

This may be an irrational fear but it is something I don't seem to be able to get over.

To the average user it is far from a c**p lens and will in all probability be far better than the camera or even phone they are using. I have many pictures taken with my old Nikon 18-55 kit lens that look great

I too have some lovely photos that I took with the D3300 and kit lens, especially when stopped down a little. I know nothing about fujifilm lenses, so that is why I posted about the camera and kit lens. I really was thinking about the camera set up, that I mentioned above, but it seems not that good a deal after all.

I haven't had too many kit lenses but have had a Nikon one in my film days, a Sigma 28-300mm on Canon DSLR's, a couple of Panasonic MFT ones and a 28-70mm for my Sony A7. These lenses may be scoffed at but even when looking closely (but maybe not being too hyper critical away from the central area and into the corners) every single one of them has been at least adequate to the task their main limitation being the ordinary aperture range.

The Fuji Kit lenses are very good in my experience. The first one i had i was shocked by the image quality and bokeh

Sell the kit lens or buy body only and a lens you want.

If you want to try the Fuji Prime lens approach you could do worse than a used XE-2 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens, if you find you can't get on with the single lens approach you can always stick the 18-55 XF on it .

But the XF27mm has no aperture ring either and the OP indicated he wanted the ring on the lens!!!

If you mean the XF18-55mm F2.8-4 RLM OIS, then that lens is £399 from the refurb store. Even on other sites, it is listed at £320 used.

I had an xt10 and loved it. Put a small lens on it and it's pocketable(just). My xt10 had anything from the 27mm up to the 100-400 with the 1.4tc on and gave me some excellent shots.
Think of the xt20 as a slimmed down xt2. It would give you the option of other lenses but that would start to cost £££, it's a bottomless pit.

Look at the exif from your previous shots and it'll give you an idea for focal length. You may find an x100 would fit the bill perfectly too.

Just choose which one your heart wants, not your head. Both are excellent. If you love it, you'll use it. Talking about buying one isn't getting out and taking shots.

JUST DO IT JONNNNNNN!!!!!!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Love it when I'm spending other peoples money and not my own(for a change)
