Forgive the (probably) stupid question, but I've just found this on fleabay and it loooks a bit dodgy, but is it all thsat bad?

CLICKY!

Don't know much about Olympus, but it seems like a hard sell for an MF prime.

Is the lens any good and is it worth the asking?

Ad looks a bit desperate tbh...

It's a bit confusing. The guy's a camera dealer with 100% feedback, but it looks a bit dodgy. The ad is, as you pointed out, a bit desperate, and looks a bit dodgy to me, but I can't put my finger on why lol.

It looks like a normal OM (35mm) mount lens with an adapter to convert to the 4/3 mount. I'm using an OM mount lens via an adaptor on my 450d and it works fine if only manually. The only downside, and I think it's due to internal reflections, as the lens isn't coated, is that in just the right set of circumstances I can get a large flare/bright patch through the middle of the image. As for the repute of the seller, I'd suggest checking the feedback.

I agree with this and I also think the price is about right given the fact that it's a relic from the film days. The lens will not only be incapable of auto focusing it will also be unable to make use of the cameras auto exposure system. This means you will have to focus with the lens wide open and then stop it down manually to adjust the exposure. Not the end of the world but the decision to buy is all yours of course.

I'll pass I think...lol

Many OM Legacy lenses yield excellent results on 4/3 cameras though as has already been pointed out, you need an OM-4/3 adapter, and you will lose all auto functionality: focus, exposure etc...

Do a search on eBay for OM legacy lenses and there are plenty that are faster and brighter than the Tokina one shown in this ad. If you are looking for a fast OM lens you'd be better looking for an original Olympus lens rather than an alternate.

Thanks Jon. I wasn't specifically looking for an old OM lens, I was just looking for lens for my E420. Got a bit of extra cash this month! lol

Doesn't matter now, I'm about to order a Sigma 55-200 from WE.

Sigma 55-200mm...? for the E410...?

Do you have a link? How much, what's the spec of that lens...? Hold the purchase, there may be better alternatives. Also, have a look on www.e-group.uk.net - it's a dedicated Olympus forum as you're likely to get more specific help on there.

I wouldn't go for that one Chris, I seem to remember a few threads about it relating to softness etc. You would be better going for the Oly 70-300mm lens, it's a cracker for the price.

Some images from it here

I don't doubt it's a good price for that class of glass, but I really can't stretch that far! I think I'm going to give the Siggy a go, as I said, I can't afford much more. Unless you can recommend a better lens for studio/portrait work around the same sort of price, give or take 20 quid or so?

I had been looking at the 25mm pancake for studio work, (I wouldn't need a new bag to go with it like I would a bigger lens lol). Would you thik the pancake would be ok in studio?

Did you not get any kit lenses with your E-410...? the Olympus Zuiko kit lenses are absolutely superb quality. You might find someone looking to sell one of them if you ask on the Oly forums I linked to earlier.

The two kit lenses I refer to are the 14-42mm and 40-150mm - both of which are excellent kit glass. Why not ask with a WTB thread (want to buy) on e-group, and see if anyone responds.

Update: Actually Chris, I might be mistaken about the poor reviews of the Sigma 55-200, it might have been another Sigma lens that was thought to be poor quality. of the posts I see on e-group relating to or commenting on the 55-200, most users seem to be happy.

I'd ask on there.

Its a Tokina 28mm that I suppose is a standard on the 4/3 system,my wife bought me one of these as an engagement present in 1982 and it was a real belter pin sharp and gave some superb shots. If you can put up with manual everything and it is mint then I would say it is value for money

Hope so because I ordered it earlier

I might have a look round at some more older lenses. I shoot everything on manual anyway so it's no biggy. What I'm really after is an adaptor to go M42 (Praktika) mount (The old screw thread one) to 4/3s so I can use my old ST605 lenses with my E420 body.
