Is this any good

I have got rf602s but would like to play with all the ittl and hss off camera and pw cost too much for me (I have 2 sb900 that need to be played with)
 
Looks like it'll do the job. I got one similar (a yongnuo one) off eBay - it works great; even has a locking pin mechanism on the hotshoe for extra security. There may be cheaper ones but probably by only a few quid.

Mine is a 1.5m and it's coiled: coiled ones are great until you want to stretch them out and then they usually pull the light stand with them. Mind you, mine has an additional TTL cord connection (for a Nikon SC-xx cord) so an additional flash can be connected and two fired using TTL. This means you can have a flash attached by the coiled cord, plus a second unit connected via an SC-18/19 cord coming off the cord or the first flash (using the TTL sync port on the side)

You can use an SC-18/19 directly to a flash from the camera but you need to run it through a flash on the camera's hotshoe, so effectively you only have one off-camera flash head. Nikon do a TTl splitter called an AS-10 but it only has a female hotshoe so can't be connected directly to the camera.

EDIT: This is identical to the one I have. See the ports in the side? They're for additional flash units to be connected via SC18-19 - very useful :)

If you have a look towards the rear of your SB900 manual there may be a section on wired flash use that should give you a clearer picture of how it all fits together, plus there may be a schematic on what accessories you need. I had a booklet with my SB800s that was a guide to off-camera flash but not sure if that still ships with modern units :)

The sb 900 manual does not have the info in it but I am sure if I play long enough I will work it out
 
It's all pretty easy really; connect flash via cord to camera and then connect SC18/19 cables to sync ports on the cord and away you go - several flashes will trigger. Either that or set your other flash to SU-4 mode (optical slave mode) so it'll trigger wirelessly via CLS. Cheaper and uses the existing technology that's in the SB900.
