As far as i am aware, you can obtain a web license to display premier league images, but i would imagine it costs a fair whack!!

Also the images are 2-3 years old, so there may be something that allows them to be displayed after a period of time.

I am sure others on here will be able to shed more light on it

Nothing in the current season?

That'll probably explain it then

There are some excellent images on there

no, didnt see anything shown from last season.

I have seen another website in the past showing old premier league images.

You have me thinking now, i will see if i can find a copy of Dataco's T's & C's and see what it says about older images

I've been told explicitly 'do not put any pictures up anywhere or give them to anyone that you've taken of prem games'
If someone could clarify if there is a web license or if after time that rule becomes obsolete, that would be very helpful!

I might be wrong but i think Nigel Roddis shoots for PA or Getty so his images may be covered by their license

To be honest i wont even take the risk displaying them publicly as Dataco can be pretty strict

Seems pretty unlikely that he would be doing it unauthorised - given the number and quality of the images on there.

dont think he's good enough for getty or pa material to be honest

Not sure Matty, i've heard his name before though, somewhere . Out of interest who do you shoot for?

Nigel used to work for Reuters...not sure if he still does. I would imagine he's covered by their licence. I know a lot of the sports togs have their own personal sites, and use their employers licence for DataCo since their photos are effectively their employers property.

As for not being PA/Getty quality...no they're Reuters/Action Images quality which as we all know is much much better :D

Seriously though, how are they not that high a quality?

Nigel was still shooting for Reuters last season, saw him around quite a bit at Wigan/Bolton/Man U/Man City.... so I presume he still is! :) He even has his own facebook page here, although I think it's a bit tongue in cheek :D

Ah-Ha...I wondered how long our resident northern premier league snapper would take to turn up.

Gaz Copley has his own personal site that showcases his work and his disclaimer reads:

This website is strictly for personal use and all the pictures belong to the bosses at the Press Association, so you’re best speaking to them if you would like any of them. In the meantime have a look around.

Gareth
So I can only assume that PA gave him permission to display his work as a sort of "online portfolio". I would be surprised if there weren't a number of others who do the same!

I'm in transition right now, I'm working for Newscast in London but I'm about to join Caters news in Birmingham

I've been shooting premiership for 2years for Mercury Press

He is, there isn't a worth while cricket match where he isn't present! Even turned up at a Rotherham play off..

ditto for Phil Brown. He gets everywhere. Blimey, Rotherham play-offs, that is a star-studded occasion. Don't the Chuckle Brothers still go there?

They haven't been on the two or three occasions when I've had the pleasure... I am determind to get a shot of me with them there though. Facebook gold. Legends.

To be fair, there is no comparison.. a lot of that looks like specifically shot stuff, there is hardly any live action there!

Have to agree actually...the "sport features" and "sportraits" stuff is good, and becoming more and more part of my remit (as I'm sure it is others) but at the end of the day, Live Action is a world apart from it.

Might be seeing you at a couple of Villa/WBA/Wolves/Brum City this year then mgrowcoot? Do Caters cover sport?

He got some ribbing when Npower were giving the shot away for free on business cards to all the other togs at the England Vs Bangladesh test match

The price of success?! Though he could be getting free gas and leccy!;)

Hang on...I take it back what I said about Adam Pretty... I remembered he's on the Jury for the World Press Photo awards and I'm damned if I want to scupper my chances :D They're slim enough already.

See, it's those photos that I include snippets of. I think in my 20 image portfolio I put 3 or 4 like those in there, the rest are demonstrating my ability at live action stuff. Though I expect that once I'm settled I'll start to change the contents.

At the moment I cover the South West, Wales and into the Midlands on occasion for a large multi-national agency based in France that has links with Getty (not saying on thread). I'm also in transition though to a specialist sports agency that is one of the ones mentioned in thread (again, not saying in thread - if you want to know PM me!).

I think Phil, Andy and Phil all know which ones they are!

Hopefully i'll be covering some PL this season too so may see you at a game James,

Phil i should see you at Bombsite road or the DW,Reebok. We can say hello to our bessie mate, she'll love it if im covering PL

Bloody hell...they let you in to the club then did they?! Standards have definitely slipped then.

I'm going to keep asking for The Hawthorns, which might be possible since Mike Regan jumped to the GI ship! It's a favourite of mine...not least for the ability to go back up and shoot from the press seats to get a nice "overhead" look, especially nice if they've kept the same groundsman who cuts lovely checkerboards in the grass.

Now THAT is full on geekery.

Yeah i know :suspect: :dummy:

They let any old rabble in now, think thats how Phil got away with it last season :p

Agency have applied for PL but don't know if we will get it. Im debating approaching other agencies and going full time but not sure if im consistent enough yet and the fact some might label me as a weekend warrior could b****r it up

Ah yes, didn't see there were different sections ;)

The heavy editing on a lot of the shots still suggests it's not all live action at the big competitions... but the shots that clearly are, are undoubtedly awesome :)

Being with the same agency as Andy, i too will hopefully be doing a bit of PL football next season!

Some great shots on his website, although i am not the greatest fan of the heavily edited work he has on there
