Yes
I have come across a site:

http://www.thepurpleteacompany.com/

Which is advertising software downloads at ridiculous prices, eg Photoshop CS4 Extended at $56.

Has anybody ever heard of, or dealt with, this company?

most probably a scam,

remember the saying "if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is"

Adobe stated a number of times they don't sell OEM versions of their software. Those kind of sites that sell OEM software cheaply are usually bogus ones and you risking your credit card details to be gone in wrong hands really...

Now, I don't want to generalise but that isn't filling me with confidence.

Just curious Photek

How did you get that info ?

Never heard of it, never dealt with it, and I doubt I ever will! The only good deals I've seen of Adobe software is from them, and their educational editions or whatever they're called. Most of the others I imagine will either send out pirate software, or go and buy a shiny new car with your card details!

From Adobe's web site:

There are no OEM versions of the Adobe Creative Suite or the applications therein. Various websites that offer such OEM versions of software, typically located in Eastern Europe, are using this as a ruse for offering illegal, pirated software.

(Note that this is not the same as buying a new computer with a pre-installed and paid for copy of an Adobe application - those applications are paid for and licensed just as a shrink-wrapped copy of an Adobe applications.)

Illegal, pirated software is obviously not upgradable and if you get caught with same, you face the same potential prosecution as anyone offering such counterfeit goods in the first place

probably a digital download of a copied version....if you actually recieve anything at all

Avoid like the plague

Oh, I'm sure you will receive a fully working copy of CS4 Extended. Indeed, there'll be lots of extras that you don't get from Adobe - like the Botnet software and the keylogger to capture all your passwords. Still, it's worth having your bank account emptied to save a few hundred dollars.

Avoid like the plague

I'd rather have the plague.

I've had very similar emails like these in the past, definitely a scam.

What you will probably get is a cracked version of the software, which will seem like it works and may do for some time but the chances are somewhere down the line, adobe or which ever software you've bought, will find a way round the crack and deactivate the software, rendering it useless.

And as mentioned above, all manner of crap could be installed on your computer, which could do all sorts of damage to your system and you wallet!!

Utter scam. OEM software shouldn't be available for download - it's meant to be supplied with hardware. It's not illegal to sell OEM software discs separately (indeed, this is how I get my McAfee software every year from Amazon), but there is no reason OEM software should be available for sale as a download.

Amusingly enough, the "Refund" page goes through to a 404 "Page Not Found" error.

Their help site fully confirms it as a scam - offering a full guide to using Daemon Tools to run their supposedly legitimate software!

The final bit that made me chuckle comes from the end of the FAQ page:

Q: I got the software and I am happy with it!

A: We happy, too.
