Is This a Good Price?

Not that bad at all. If you want to have a try of one, ive got one in Manchester you can have a go with?
 
It's a good price if the 150mm lens only have small amount of fungus something like starting at the edges on front glass...beware of opaque/haze elements and also the rear element is more important than the front, for damage.
 
Thanks for the info guys and the offer Rob but I think I'm going to stick to my original plan and get a TLR.

I have heard,that putting the lens in sunlight will help,I won't get rid of the fugus their,but it should kill it off,and stop it spreading :)

Would have to be outside though, window glass blocks out a large proportion of the UV radiation which can kill the fungus
 
I know you aren't interested in it anymore - but it is a reasonable price IMO, still a lot of kit for very little money. What TLR do you have your sights on?

It's a shame my Yashica Mat is broken and Royal Mail charges are so high, otherwise I'd look at sending it out to try out the twin lens reflex experience.
 
I'm still tempted but I also want a TLR and Ffordes have a Bessamatic kit with 3 lenses (including the Zoomar) for about half the cost of buying the lenses seperately. Damn this GAS its building up some terrible pressure....I may pop.

As to a TLR I'm thinking a Yashica, but not necesarily the 124g which I think is a bit overpriced at the moment. Possibly a 635 or one of the earlier Mats.

It's a never ending cycle, there were just so many fantastic cameras made over the years. The 124G is very overpriced at the moment, especially considering all the previous models have the same Yashinon lens and perform all the same. Best of luck in your search, I'm sure the New Toy thread will have a post soon :D
 
In August we are staying in the Great Glen in Scotland and I will have a few days with the car and on my own, Ffordes is only about 45 minutes away.........:naughty:

Ffordes have some quite reasonably priced TLR's at the moment. I am still waiting for a 635 to come back from the repairers which once I've used it in my 52cameras project will be up for sale ;)

I got a lovely Rolleiflex t as my tlr and gave my dad back his lubi. Cracking camera and cheap in comparison to other rolleis. ;)

Last time I looked there were a couple on vintage cameras (the place you recommended). Being bay 1 the accessories are a little cheaper too.

IMO, the prices they have on the T's are very expensive, even for a dealer. I've seen 3.5Es go for little more at ffordes and at Peter Loy, which make a far better investment. Even an Automat MX-EVS is a better idea (and a cheaper idea at that) - the T was renowned for having internal parts quality not up to Rollei standards.

A Rolleicord V will probably perform as well as the Tessar with the Rolleiflex T - the 'flex will probably have a brighter screen, but aside from that its value seems to be incredibly overestimated/priced by most.

If only on the prices! I have been watching a few places over the last months and rollei prices have done a similar thing to Leica prices. If I could get a 3.5e for a little more than £350 I would be buying them all up!

As for the build quality, mine seems very solid and whilst it's had a hard life the action is smooth and the shutter speeds accurate. I think rollei cameras are all well built and if they have lasted this long then they would hold up to day to day use! ;)
 
Indeed, it's all a relative thing - the lettered models were over-engineered to such an extent that any deviation is considered inferior.

ffordes had a decent 3.5E for £399 not so long ago, I recall.
 
Well after all the talk I've gone and bought a Yashica A in minty nick with case for £39 including postage. Its been used regularly and everything works fine so it should be a nice intro to TLR'ing.
