Hi folks, looking for my first starter set and have had this offered to me for £240

Canon EOS 350D digital camera with 18-55 mm lens, camera body and lens in original box, including charger, 2 batteries, neck strap, lens covers, instructions, and all CDs and cables.
Also Sigma 70-300mm lens to fit, including lens covers and hood, also boxed. Also includes 2x4GB compact flash cards, polarizing filter and bag.

All in very good condition.

Really depends on what you want to do with it all. The 350d is not the best canon availabe at that sort of money. You could get the 30d with that lot for that sort of money. I would spend just a little more (and it would be just a little more) and buy a 40d which i think is a fantastic camera

Thanks for that Rob, but could you expand a little on why the 350d isn't the best, it has good reviews. I've searched for 30 & 40D's and can't find any with that set of accessories for anywhere near the same money.

To be fair, the deal you mention in the original post includes only accessories that come in the box. There isn't anything extra there.

The 40d is far superior in every respect.

Put it this way, you'll get 6 months out of the 350d and want to upgrade - so instead of losing money, just buy the 40d now.

Point taken, thanks.
How much for this then if you don't mind.
MINT Canon EOS 40D - only 1673 on shutter count!
Comes with strap, instructions/manuals, CD, Box, usb cable, computer cable, CF Card,
2 Lens included are
Canon EFS 18-55mm.
Canon Ultrasonic 55-200mm

40d £325
18-55 £50
55-200 £90
TOTAL £465 (maybe lower if bought at the same time from the same person)

There is a query on the CF card, all depends how big and what class (how fast it ca n write data to it).

What is your budget?

That's stretching my budget to more than I want at this stage really just to try my hand at something for amusement.

Nothing wrong at all with the 350D I bought one for my daughter when they first hit the shops in the UK and she's still happily shooting with it now.
As said earlier the 40D is a much better camera but as you've seen it comes at a price.
If you can get the seller down to £200 you'll have done OK.

For that sort of money the 350D is ok. It'll take pretty decent photos and give you a chance to get to grips with the basics.
As others have said, there are better cameras available, but they're going to cost you more money. If you want to get started sooner rather than later the 350D will let you do that, if you're not in a hurry then save up for a while longer and get something better later down the line. You're probably going to need £400+ for something like the 40D though.
