Hi There,

There's a shop over the road selling a second hand Canon 400D incl a 18-55 lens for £299.

Is this a good deal?

Thanks

Thanks for that. So I'm better off just buying a body and then buying a better lens separately?

What is a good lens to start with? I'm looking to use it mainly for photographing my son and other family members etc. (I want to learn how to do those nice portrait pics where the face is sharp and the background is blurry!)

Is the 400D a good one to start with? They also have just the body for £225.

Thanks

MPB a very reputable seller and forum sponsor has a couple of 400d's at £189 and they come with warranty so if thats what you want might be worth a look in there.. if you were paying £225 on a 2nd hand Canon body you would be in 20d/30d territory which adds a better build quality body, double the shutter speed and a secondary settings panel, you lose 2mp but I wouldnt worry too much about that, what might be a minus for you is it adds bulk and weight.

nice portraits with sharp face and blurred background, that has Canon 50mm 1.8 'nifty fifty' written all over it, you can pick them up dirt cheap(around £75) and they have to be the most bargain lens of all time.

Fabulous thanks for that. Am I right in thinking that the double number models are better than the triple number models? So the 10d, 20d, 30d etc are better than the 400d, 450d etc or have I got that all wrong?!

would a 10d be a good starter or is the 400d better? There's so many to choose from it's so confusing!!

Thanks

I wouldnt go as low as a 10d they don't accept EF-S lenses so if in future you want to pick up the bargain 55-250mm IS you won't be able to, 450d is a more than credible camera, a bit plasticky but decent enough, me and a friend got through another friends wedding with 450d's and got some excellent results..

if you don't mind the added bulk and weight tho I would go after a 20d/30d first
