Is this a good buy?

I think you would probably be better off with a Dell, Haven't had any experience of Medion Laptops but I imagine if they are being sold at Aldi they can't be brilliant!

Dont get a dell! well at least not a cheap one. mine insists on over heating and is getting very slow!
 
I've never heard of the brand Medion but I have to say, for the price, that's an extremely well spec'd laptop imo :)
 
Yep. It's a good spec for the price. I know someone with a Medion desktop (from Aldi) and it was very highly specced, and it's been a great machine for him, and he was doing loads of video editing.

Whenever Aldi have them in, they sell like hot cakes, so you may be lucky...
 
There is a few people on the site that have gone for the desktops and not heard any complaints yet :shrug:

As above good spec for price especially having Intel processor.

Things you need to consider:
Im not convinced on how robust it would be.
Im not convinced on how good the screen will be.
I cant find a weight on the site?
You know how big a 17" laptop is dont you? They're called desktop replacements for a reason.

I bought an Aldi laptop in December with similar spec just slightly smaller screen cant fault it so far, it goes out with me when doing time lapse photography.

My desktop pc is from Aldi too, no problems with that after two years. :)
 
Generally Aldi seem to come up with very decent spec computers at very decent prices.
Medion may not be a "household name" but it's one that Aldi have used for quite a while.
To be honest Chaz, virtually anything you could buy nowadays would do 99% of what most people need.
I'll accept that as photographers we may have slightly different requirements, but as computers have basically just got better and better I can't see any problem at all with the one you're looking at.

Dell are fine too, I work in IT and we use Dell servers and laptops. But if you consider that whatever you buy, you'll probably be thinking of chucking it in the nearest skip in 4 years time anyway... I'd go with it.

Mince:shake:. Aldi from time to tome sell great quality stuff. Their Medion computers have, in the past, had "Buy It" reviews in some top computer magazines. I'd say it's a safe bet:thumbs:
 
Got my original laptop (a Medion) from Aldi - it was well specced and robust - served very well for 5 years, was very pleased with it.
 
Yeah Medion PC's I have worked on in the past have always used really decent components, gigabyte boards western digital or seagate hard drives branded memory no reason not to buy one I tried to pick on of the PC's they had on offer the other week but was too late getting to the shops. I bought a Gericom laptop from them years ago and it is still getting daily use, I did make use of the warranty the mother board failed just before the 3 year warranty expired I sent it off and it came back working they even replaced the lid of the screen due to a huge scratch that was on it it looked like new again.
 
'Argos' sell Medion PC's, but you have to buy the 3 yr warranty.
New Argos catalogue, 'Samsung', 3 yr warranty with other bits and bobs.
Not such a high spec.

I've had several Medion PC's and they have all been good. Only once did a hrad-drive fail and they came to my house to replace it. Can't fault them in the slightest.
 
I can't believe it, I forgot to touch wood after my post, at 12:32 yesterday the laptop died. It has been on pretty much 24/7 for the last 4 years so I cobbled together a desktop last night when I discovered it had died and spent a few hours putting everything back on it. I don't think I will replace the laptop I have a netbook for mobile stuff and a desktop is more practical as I can drop lots of hard drives in it for storeage.

Agree - DON'T GET A DELL.

My daughter had one, and after a week two keys fell off. Many phone calls of complaint resulted in them sending a new keypad, which they advised I had to fit myself (Guarentee did not seem to apply if you had not purchased extra cover - I did try to explain to them that in Britain it does not matter if extra cover was purchased, but they were not for listening). 13 Months later the motherboard packed in. I managed to obtain e-mail addresses and phone numbers of some the bosses, but it ended up with the same usless lot calling me back from their so called customer service. Eventually 30 plus e-mails later, I got a call from one of their European managers, who sounded sympathetic and he assured me that my whole case would be raised at his next meeting and he had hoped to get back to me with good news. Never heard a dam thing again.
In addition to all this, the ordering process was a fiasco also, taking them weeks to get the laptop delivered.
My experience with Dell was total hell :thumbsdown:
 
i was all ways told medion are rebranded hewlet packards
 
I have a medion lappy and can't really complain (Apart from the fact ive since gone mac).

A tip though, on the day they are selling them, get down to aldi about an hour before they open. There will be a big queue of people wanting them, and they only usually stock about 8 :lol:
