Is this a Decent Lens?

I am hoping for a Canon EOS 400D

There are a few reviews around for it, here and here. It's not looking too good though:

Probably the worse lens produced ever by Canon is EF 90-300 f/4.5-5.6 USM Lens

I'm there'll be people who can give first hand advice though!

Chris

Don't know anything about that lens specifically, and can't seem to find too much by way of reviews of it - probably in part down to it's age. It does seem to be a good price in comparison with other places, however I would guess that there are better options out there. I am a firm fan of the Canon 55-250mm IS, which can be had for only a little more if you search round, although stocks do appear to be limited (due to popularity, I assume). For a beginners lens, I have found it not only relatively foolproof, but cracking value for money. The 'IS' implementation is a god-send, unless you intend to use a tripod all the time.

www.camerapricebuster.co.uk is a good place to start for pricing; there's also Kerso and Honk Kong (Digital Rev and OneStop Digital) to consider, but appreciate that's a bit more effort than your local Argos! ;)

Another vote for the 55-250 IS, although as I only have that and the kit lens, my opinion might be a little biased :D .

There's stock to be had here It's not necessarily the out and out cheapest, but it's pretty good.

You would be better off going for the Sigma 70mm - 300mm DG
about £89

Oooh that one sounds quite good. I didn't know you could put Sigma lenses on Canon bodies! What other lenses can be used on Canon? Pentax? Nikon?

If you read the description on the 3rd party lenses, it'll say "Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 (Canon AF)". So just read the description and you'll be fine!

Edit: Here's a link to the jessops site!

Ok cheers ;)

Sigma 70-300mm APO available for £115 here

I would have to agree the sigma 70-300 APO lens is a good starting telephoto lens

Those are 2 different lenses!!!

Get a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. It's a great lens for the price, one of the best budget telephoto zooms. I have one and if you check out my website and look at the sports photos they are almost all with that lens.

Forget that Canon lens though - it was released for a film body.

Look at http://www.camerapricebuster.com/ for the latest good prices.
