Is this a colour profile issue?

Noticed a strange difference in a photo when being viewed in Photo Viewer as opposed to Photoshop (dark patches at the edge of the image on the left and right). I wondered if it may be down to the colour profile being Adobe RGB, but I've changed it to sRGB and several other ones and the problem is still apparent. Anyone have any idea what may be causing it? Cheers :)

Thanks Selena :)

It's an odd one as you would expect the marks to appear across the background. Even stranger is that when I crop it right in to remove the marks, they still appear in Photo Viewer! Bizarre

That is really strange! Have you tried viewing it any other programme or uploading the original online? Just to see if you have the same issue anywhere else or just in Photo Viewer.

Failing that, you could join this group and ask there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195567190503489
He knows a lot more about PS and colour profiles than I do (although you might get a bollocking for using Adobe RGB) :)

Have you used any screen calibrator at all? I had similar issues (images were darker than in photoshop) but it was due to my ICC profile.
When I calibrated to version 4 (using x-rite colormunki display) in windows viewer was showing darker images, when i calibrated using ICC profile version 2 all is perfect.
Not sure if it helps in your case :)

yep, as said it is an issue with photo viewer and ICC profiles. Under windows color management, try clicking the profiles button in the bottom right corner and then select 'combine my setting with system defaults' and see if that resolves the issue.

Also what screen you using?

Thanks for this Andrius. It's a Dell 2412. It's not calibrated but prints from Loxley are always a good match so haven't felt the need to do it (until now!) :)

Thanks Paul I'll give that a go :)

State the obvious time.. :)

Are the marks actually there on the untouched raw file?

As in uncropped, no rotate or lens correction applied..

Could it be that a crop or rotate or lends correction is causing the image to be slightly cropped enough to remove these marks, and PS is taking account of this but photo viewer is simply showing a preview of the raw file?

That tells me the problem is with the program itself. It's a sizing/rendering issue with the program. It can't be "color space" if it's still there after the offending area is cropped off.

It's certainly an odd one. I'm not overly worried now as I've uploaded it and viewed it on an iPad and they don't appear, so should be ok to print etc.

Must just be an odd photo viewer issue!
