Is There Any Printers Made To Last Nowadays

Bought a new printer Kodak 2 years ago, it lasted 10 months and died, got it replaced by the shop after some hassle for another new Kodak printer, it lasted six months before giving me gip, it eventually refused to print anything clearly, after replacing print head, installing new Kodak cartridges. I lost my patience with it and opened the back door of my computer room and threw the damn thing up the garden in frustration. Went out on Boxing Day 2012 and bought a Canon MG 5350s, now two and a bit months after 1 yrs warranty has expired it too has died on me, something eletrical inside the printer. To say I'm a little cheesed of is being polite.

Is there any reliable printer companies any more? Most use is documents, club newsletters and the odd flyer or A4 sized poster, photographs rarely get printed as that gets done at a shop.

Any recommendations on a printer that will last more than 18 months ?
 
I have had a Canon Pixma IP4700 for 3yrs using compatible inks and working still.
 
My Canon iX4000 is a few years old now and still works fine. Only replacing it since it's not that good for B&W photos. Its predecessor lasted for several years and was only upgraded so I could do A3 prints - that was a Canon s820. Both were only fed genuine inks after a bad experience with a cheapo pattern one and the new one will get the same diet. Paper choice is less important and the Ilford Galerie I use seems to give the same results as the Canon equivalent.

Mine's is the IP4300 and must be coming up for 4 years without fault, though I only use Canon inks.
 
I've had a little Samsung laser printer for about 5 years and it's been brilliant ... cost me £39 !
Epson DX4000 has been going fine for around 4 years as well :)
 
Another one using Canon here, ip7250, with compatible inks. 12 months old and working fine. Last one lasted 3.5 years.
Had 2 Epson's before these, kept clogging up. Tech guy said it was compatible inks fault so bought gen Epson ones, you guessed it, clogged up even faster!
 
I've had an HP all in one for about five years now. Still works perfectly.
 
Frank i am suprised. My Canon i have had for 5 years now, before that i had 2 epson nothing but faults with both of them, although i know they are many a photographers choice.
What about writing to Canon or dropping them an email, see if they will help.

Probably wouldn't help now after raking about inside removing a bit here and there to see if it was anything obvious:rolleyes: I'd understand if the printer was being moved around all the time but when I remove a new printer from its packaging it sits in the one position, kept clear of dust and never gets moved.
I'm going to read up on laser printers see if they are a bit more resistant to breaking down as easy. I know toners are expensive but last longer than ink, I want something that will last 2 or 3 years at least. Maybe I'm just a unlucky sod.

What are you using the printer for? If it's not for quality photo printing then look at a second hand B&W laser printer with a cheaper colour inkjet on the side (if you have room)

I've currently got an HP laser that is our workhorse for all general printing. Cost me £50 with three toner cartridges so it's pennies to run. Anything colour goes to our Canon (same model as yours so hoping it doesn't pack up anytime soon!!)

We've found over the last 5-10 years this combo works well although if I could afford, I'd go for a colour ,asker and go down to just the one printer.
 
Just ordered a Brother hl2135w £69.99 B&W laser printer off Amazon ten minutes ago, found reasonably priced toner carts for it. As for colour photos I've decided to use online print shops, photobox and these sorta places. Scanning I hardly ever do, if I need to I can use my phone.
Unfortunately the inkjet has found a new home in the wheelie bin:(
 
Kodak isn't actually a very good printer.

Avoid Epson because of the chipped printer cartridge issues.

Go for either Canon or HP (if it's inkjet) and make sure it has separate colour cartridges not one 'colour' cartridge' because they are inefficient, and you have to replace the whole cartridge when one of the colours inside is used up, versus replacing that one colour in a multi colour cartridge printer.

Bear in mind too that once your ink has been opened and is in your printer, it'll dry up within 6 months, so if you only print infrequently, remember the lifespan.
 
Inkjets aren't made to last.

Lexmark and HP lasers on the other hand are. We have at work a 15 year old Lexmark laser, printed over 1,000,000 pages in its first 10 years.

Wonder what that would have costs in inkjet cart's :)
