Basically, if I can put it simple...... I want to know if there is a way to have a crop frame of a certain ratio, eg 7x5, that you can quickly change size bigger/small and that it still keeps to that ratio.

Does that make sense?
 
what software do you use?
 
Sorry, I am using CS4.

It's basically for when framing shots for clients so I can solstice to their sizes requested etc.

The problem is when creating the size in a new window I have to keep guessing how big to fit my picture in etc

So that's why I thought if I can create a 'frame' than sticks tithe ratio but I can adjust the size etc
 
The crop tool has that option. As far as I remember (not running windows atm) just click the drop down arrow and choose a pre-defined ratio or simply enter your own in the boxes.

Agree with Almost. Select the crop tool and just enter the figures 5 and 7 in the relevant boxes.

Dragging a corner of the crop box allows you to change size but maintain the aspect ratio.
 
That sounds right.

Can the size be adjusted but it will still stay in it's set ratio? If so that's perfect

Dont forget though when you change the aspect of a picture ie process a portrait instead of a landscape you will need to either rotate the image or swap the numbers round.

Or much easier click the little arrow between the numbers to swap them around for you.
 
Rather than use the Crop tool, switch to the Rectangular Marquee tool and change Normal in the drop-down box to Fixed Ratio and then add your Ratio. You can then frame your intended crop as you wish, then Image->Crop, followed by a resize to your intended print/display size.

It offers quite a bit more flexibility, as you are framing the crop purely by ratio and not by size. It's also easier to adjust using Transform/Free Transform.
