Right, looks like it is going to be a 'fun' day at Oulton tomorrow so i was wondering is there a way I can hold the brolly but still take pictures?

THanks
Matt

stuff it down the front of your jacket into your trousers, works fine

The camera works from there??

I've managed it by pushing the brolly between the shoulder strap of a backpack and the handle into my pocket. It works, but can get a bit dicey if the wind gusts...

Just don't wink at any other togs, or you're likely to get a telephoto shoved up your nostril!

I hope you don't have one of those brollies with the big curved handle! :suspect:

What are you are you a man or a woman?? :shake:

Only women using brollys.:nono::cuckoo:

Seriuosly better option is to get yourself proper outdoor waterproofs, Gortex lined boots, over trousers and a coat, i have packlite Gortex. The use a plastic bag over the camera or get a proper rain sleeve for it.

Sudden mental image of Matt disappearing across Oulton Park like Mary Poppins:lol::lol::lol:

Yep some-one was doing that at Donignton BSB, guess what wind cought and blow it accross the race at the start of one of the races :cuckoo: Luckily far enough in front of the leaders avoid the posible carnage if it had happened a minute later.

Cheap tripod - add a thread to bottom of umbrella - attach the two = hands free (reasonably) steady umbrella :)

do the job properly young man :nono:

Cheap gazebo from Tesco will stand a bit of the wet stuff and give ample space.

As a plus point, charge the surrounding crowd a few quid for use of the shelter to recoup the days costs. :)

This flash of brilliance was brought to you by Talkphotography the nations favorite

Whats wrong with the proper outdoor toggers way, waterproof coat with hood or a hat, and freezer bags/lastic band combo on the camera? Stop being a wuss young man :p

I'm not at all surprised that it took a lady to come along and tell you to stop being a girl but that it took 18 posts.......

:D

Wear your waterproofs, and get a dry-bag for your camera...

I bought a rucksack dry-bag for £8, cut a hole in the bottom to fit my lens hood, a small hole for the tripod foot, and another small hole for the eyepiece. Looks a lot more professional than a plastic bag;)

With a brolly, it's dead easy to change lens', batteries, cards etc.

If you're photographing motorsport, it makes sense to me to use a brolly over waterproofs (although I'd still probably wear SOME waterproofs)

Plastic bag is fine.
At the top end of the scale there is the finest quality-
HARRODS or FORTNUM & MASON number.

If your pocket money cannot stretch to one of those fine pieces may i suggest-
WAITROSE or M&S.

Still a little pricey????? At the lower "more affordable" end of the range is the less stylish but equally waterproof-
TESCO'S stripey.

Just remember to cut a hole in the bottom. (After your Mum has taken the shopping out!!)
Dean;)

Just as easy to change lenses without a brolly, i have done it manya time's having 3 lenses, and only one body.

The again i work outdoors every single day so grown used to it in these damp country.

Or get the most powerful telephoto lens there is on the market and take pictures from the comfort of your own car? :D
Won't do your bank balance much good but a great excuse to get that lens you've always wanted.

The other week when I was at Snetterton, this is what I did, I had a rucksack on my back, I put the umbrella handle down may back inside my coat. The rucksack keeps the umbrella in place and bracing your shoulders makes it more secure should the wind get up. Both hands are then free to take pictures, batteries, cards whatever.
Failing that take your girlfriend with you and get her to hold the umbrella for you.

Obviously it IS easier to change lenses without a brolly...

Having said that, it's not difficult when you have both hands free, and have a brolly over your head, with the handle stuffed down your jacket front... or as nilagin describes above.

I myself never go outdoors, and have no idea what rain is...

Just take some one with you to hold it for you,a taggy if you like:thinking: and in return give them food and drinks.........
