Yes
I have been wanting a macro lens for a while now, my boyfriend has just agreed that he will buy me one for Christmas/Birthday but he has a budget of £200-£250, I have seen a decent looking one but that is recommended just for the D40/D40x which is what I have at the moment but I am worried that if my D40X ever breaks and I replace it with a D60 or whatever then the lens won't fit.

Any recommendations?

Sigma 105, great lens to start with...............JMO..............:)

Nikon lenses are all the same fitting, some lose options with different bodies.

I don't have one yet, I was reluctant to buy one that says specifically that it's for a D40/D40X, it's in the link above your post, we posted at the same time.

Thats what I thought but this lens specifically says it's for use with the D40/D40X.

This is one I was thinking about, would need to pay some extra for it http://www.parkcameras.com/ProductD...yID/69/v/c96671e9-19d2-4862-96bc-0b39b46940d0.

Will look at the Sigma 105, thanks.

The 17-70 you have works with a D40/D40x because it has an inbuilt focus motor. The 24-70 will not AF with your D40.

If you're after macro work get a dedicated macro lens such as the 105.

Neither of those are True macro lens , you need something that goes 1:1 like the sigma 105, it wont auto focus on a D40 but that's not a problem as you use manual focus when taking macro shots any way.

I don't mind manually focusing. I will have a look at the Sigma 105.
Is there much difference between that and the Nikon 60?

The Sigma 150mm has the in-built motor - a second hand one would just stretch your budget a wee bit too much though. I've had the use of the AF Nikkor 60mm - very sharp lens IMO...makes a brilliant portrait lens, almost as good as the nifty fifty.

I took this one at my cousins wedding with the 60mm Nikkor:

If it is designed for use with the D40/40X it will work with the D60 ( and D50 /70/80/200/300 so you dont need to worry. You will need either AF-S or HSM ( Sigma) for it to autofocus on the D40/40x/60 range
I can recommend Sigma`s 105mm Macro lens and it should be within your budget but is not HSM, I think the cheapest macro lens that you will get autofocus on is the Nikon 60mm Macro AF-S. You may get a used one within budget.
But, as has been stated before, you dont really want to autofocus on a macro shot. The depth of field will be so shallow you will need manual focus to select the part you want sharp.

The Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro gets some good reviews and can be had for around £330

I would go for a lens of around 100mm, the 60mm means you have to get in very close for 1:1

Thanks for all the advice.
I think I will go for the sigma 105. Manual focusing doesn't bother me.

Just need to work on my boyfriend and get him to up his budget!
