Is there a compact camera that is close to a 5D4?

No doubt, this is a daft question for some but I can hope! There are so many compacts around at the moment and I am considering getting a new one for a trip in the New Year and would like to have time to familiarise myself with it before we go. I want a zoom - it doesn't have to be very long - 24-70 would be fine, a viewfinder and a decent size sensor. I would very much welcome your recommendations. Thanks

the only full frame compact is the sony as far as I know, and that's fixed 35mm I think.
a micro four thirds with a pro 12-40 is great or for more compact with a couple of primes. if it must be true compact id look at the canon gx7 mk11 or one of the sony rx compacts. they are great but not 5d4 level

In a word, no! The RX-100 (Sony) is now in its 6th generation and is probably as close as you can get to DSLR quality.

If you want a bigger sensor than 1" then you'll need to look at mirrorless cameras, M43 / APSC or FF.

XT2 and 18-55 would be a pretty good setup.

RX1 or Leica Q both of which I'd think would soundly thrash a 5D4 for image quality but they're fixed primes lens compacts. Maybe take a look at the Panasonic LX100/200 or to keep the size down a MFT RF style body and a compact zoom and there are Panasonic and Sony 1" compacts. I have a Panny TZ100 1" compact with something like a 25-250mm zoom and although it's not beautiful at 100% when pixel peeping whole pictures are good and the files can take a surprising amount of abuse in post capture processing.

I've just gone from a 5D to an X-T2 with 18-55, it is a great camera, that to me sits between a 5D and a compact.

Before I swapped to the X-T2, I was looking at a Powershot G7mk2, to sit below my 5D. It has a large sensor, for such a small camera and a decent lens, however no viewfinder.

Thanks everybody. I will look into those options (but not the Leica :D); might see if I can fit in my Oly. Hand luggage is so tight these days, tho.

If all else fails, sling the Oly with the heaviest lens fitted around your neck while they weigh your hand baggage. If it's still overweight, stick a lens or 2 in pockets. If it's still overweight, plenty of loob and a shoehorn!!! :D :p :asshat:

I always go through weigh in wearing a camera, though I don’t think I’ve technically ever really ‘needed’ to, it’s very rare the hand luggage gets weighed

Beats the loob and shoehorn method!

I've had my hand baggage weighed when I had a 5kg allowance for it - mine was closer to 10! The check in girl suggested I put one camera round my neck and a lens or 2 in a pocket.

Maybe it's because I only have consumer lenses, but my camera bag with D610, 4 lenses (12-24, 28-105, 50 & 135) plus Macbook weighs just 7kg.
