is there a cheap option for better moon shots on a sony ie. tele-lens?

my 18-200 just doesn't get close enough, any cheap solutions for more range.

i.ve seen these 500mm/ 1000mm tele-lens on ebay, but any thoughts

But seriously:

I tried a few shots with my Sigma 70-300. After I'd cropped and sharpened the image a bit, the results were disappointing. Just looked like a dirty white plate, pre-washing up :(

Hope you do better. I'll be watching this thread with interest
 
Those 500,600,1200mm lens are junk, but the fact they are like £100 should be a clue to that ;)
 
300mm with a 1.4 convertor would get me plenty close enough.
If you nail the exposure a 200mm should get a reasonable amount of detail
 
i'm starting to see some cheaper 70-300 and then the word 'convertor' is new to me, but i assume it does what it says i.e magnifies it by 1.4, 2 etc. depending on which one.

(i shall do a search on 'convertor')

Thats not entirely true, some of the mirror lenses out there are actually pretty reasonable if you can look past the funny shapped bokeh the slow max apperature and the awkward focussing.
