Hello Everyone.

I am new to DSLR and am delighted to have found such a welcoming, generous and knowledgeable forum to help me with developing my photography and PP skills. :)

The idea of the 52s is fantastic and what I have seen of their work has been fantastic , but, having read some of the threads, I am not too confident in being able to keep up with a picture a week because I have sooo much to learn and have seen that it can be a struggle to keep up with doing your own pics and giving/receiving C&C . Can I start a 26s thread - with a theme a fortnight? Is there one going already - I did a search but didn't get any hits for it.

Hi Ali,

I don't think there is a 26 going, but these are personal challenges so you can do whatever you want.

If you fancy shooting to a theme, why not join the 52 and see how it goes. I'm very new to this myself and I've learnt so much by taking part.
If you can only commit to one shot a fortnight, then so be it . . . you could pick your favourite out of the two weeks' themes. . . and once you get into it you might even find that you want to do one a week.

TBH my biggest struggle with time at the moment is because of Christmas coming up. The rest of the year has been fantastic.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your kind reply. I was thinking about joining the 52s and did see your progress and contributions during the year. I know I could just do one a fortnight - but I worry about trying to do too much too soon and not giving others as much feedback as their hard work deserves if I am doing it every week.

Welcome,

I'm not aware of a 26 going but getting out there and shooting regularly is a really great way (and some would say the only real way) to improve. If you want themes for your 26 you are more than welcome to take alternate themes from the 52s and make yourself a 26 (you might even start a rival cult ;) ).

Hi Ali!

I think the suggestions made are great. Pick your favourite theme from every set of 2. Don't worry about commenting on everyones thread. If you feel like you want to just pop into everyones thread every now and then when you have time :).

Also, don't be afraid to ask for advice each week if you feel there's something up with your photo. We try to be constructive too, but not soo much that it demoralises. We're a friendly bunch really... well most of us

Good luck with what ever you choose to do

I second that.
And it would be really nice to see you over there next year

I'll third it

Don't worry about taking a slightly different approach if that's what you want to do - it's your project so it's entirely up to you.

Well, thanks very much everyone. I know that I am very unlikely to manage a new theme every week - it's going to take me at least part of each week just to learn how to use people's quotes to reply to them individually ; how to squash things down to the size needed to post considerately  not to mention dusting the tripod off and reading my new DSLR manual :bonk:.

My mama warned me about cults - something about not trusting men who wear them :D.

Still, don't have to make a decision just yet. As you so generously say, I can join the 52s and just do it "my waaaayyy" (cue the crooner background music). :whistling:

LOL I think you mean a 'kilt' Ali, its a Scottish thing, and we all know everyone loves a wee ginger Scot!! ;)

Anyway, if all you have time for is a 26 then go for it, personally I will be aiming for a 52 next year but who knows whether I can keep it up or not. A365 is out of the question though.

ALL, ALL - you're having a laugh. I have to learn how to use the Darn camera AND how to process the pics :D. Not to mention these blimmin' forum tools. How hard can it be just to push on a button?? But no, I was trying to be clever and deleted most of your quote and the end code so it all went pear-shaped. Still, it's all a learning process innit???

You're right and so are the others - it is a personal thing and I have thought about it a bit more and I will set myself up a 26er challenge. Not to go with themes as such, but rather to go with techniques and processes.

As a Newbie, I think I will benefit more from looking at 'how to' rather than 'what to' for a while - and then move onto the more esoteric aspects once I have a better grounding in the basic skills.

Don't get me wrong, I can take a picture and, sometimes, one or two even come out OK. My goal is to be able to 'take better pictures'.

David Bailey I ain't ever gonna be.

If I can get a bit of help with that here and help others along - then that will be FAB!!!!!!!

Challenge enough for year one I think.

Good for you Ali. Don't forget to start your thread in with everyone else's as a 26 and we'll try and keep up to date with the comments... although it looks like it's going to be a busy year ahead in that part of the forum ;).

Thanks very much. Will do.
