Is the 400D a good starter camera?

Hi There,

Is the Canon 400D a good starter camera or am I better off saving a bit longer and getting a 450D or a 30/40D?

400D is a great way to get into photography :thumbs: spend any other monies on glass, as these will transfer (if you get EF not EF-S) onto your future bodies
 
Hi brought the 400d new as my first camera and loved it. Check out my flickr site and any pictures that does not have 2010 in the heading was taking with my 400d. So anything uploaded before xmas was taking with the 400d.

The 40d was going to be my next move as its a cracking camera and has (Live view,) but I was able to a 50d in the end.

I still have my 400d and still undecided to keep as spare or sell. If i sell it would help me get better glass.

The 400D is my first digital SLR camera and I'm more than pleased with it. Try and get the best lenses you can afford to go with it :-)

A 400D was my first camera as well, still is, lol.

If you can, rather than the 18-55 kit lens try and get it with the 18-55 IS (the kit lens off a 450D). Both lenses are pretty cheap but you'll benefit from the IS and slightly better image quality.
 
Like most of the above I started with a 400D... still have it as a back to a 7D now.... it was (is) a great starting point :) hope you can get one soon and start playing Tinytog :thumbs:
 
As above the 400D is my first camera and I can't fault it in anyway.

What type of shots will you be taking, the only downfall is the ISO above 400 as it starts to get noisy. All the pics on my flickr account are taken with a 400D and 75-300mm USM lens.

I will hopefully upgrade to the 40D at some point but the 400D will stay with me until it dies :)

Will do. It will come with remote plus spare batteries and all original stuff and will probably add a new unused lowpro bag too.
