Is slide film (35mm) dead?

No
my favourite colour films are velvia 50 and provia. Now they are basically unavailable I was looking at a roll of Ektachrome for a holiday later in the year. I cannot find it for less than £30 a roll! Some places want £4 shipping on top of that. There’s a place I’ve used for developing slide in the past that does it for £7 so I’d be looking at £40 a roll. I can’t really justify. With prices like that I can’t see it lasting that long. Especially as the last time I used Ektachrome 2 years ago it was £20.

Provia's £29 at Wex.

But yes, as all things out of date / fashion the price goes up considerably.

I didn’t notice that. I’ll have a look but I’m not sure I can justify £30 for the film alone. It’s a shame.

Bought my last batch of slide films at Bass and Bligh in Harrogate at easter time - £28 for Fuji and £30 for Kodak.

When you look at inflation they've only risen in line with a lot of other stuff, but I do miss the 3 x Fuji professional plus processing vouchers for £20 from Fujilab (or 5 EC100 plus vouchers for €20 from Karstadt in Luebeck). What stings is the scarcity of the stuff and availability of labs to do processing (I do mourn the loss of Peak Imaging), and to mount slides...

The guy I use is based in Southend, you have to buy the processing through eBay though. But I’ve sent him about 3 rolls when I do use slide and never had an issue. He must have a mini home lab set up, it’s all his eBay is devoted to https://ebay.us/m/GC7OUO

Do you have any experience with classic photo supplies? It's the first time I've come across them and the prices seem very decent
None I'm afraid.

I sometimes use my OM2n but very infrequently.

I have about 10 rolls that were given to me.

At the current rate they'll last until around 2035 :)

120 roll does not seem to have gone up too much.
While Fuji film stock is hard to come by the Kodak range is still readily available.
I actually prefer Kodak E100 to Velvia as it does not have the annoying magenta cast.

I prefer provia and velvia to Ektachrome, its a little cool for my taste but I did like it. That Flic chrome 100 appears to just be Ektachrome 100. I watched a video with the founder of Flic film. He buys Ektachrome 100d (which according to him is just the name they give Ektachrome 100 when sold in large rolls for movie cameras) and re rolls it. Id use it for £17 a roll.

That might be worth a try. Nik and trick sell it for the same price and seem to rave about it
I've used the Flic Chrome and like it. It's about the cheapest you'll get E6 anywhere.

I'll be interested to see if availability declines now Kodak are restricting purchases of their bulk 35mm movie films. As @Nebular89 says it's the same Ektachrome.

I must I admit I've not seen much Velvia for sale.

Another source of bulk loaded Ektachrome https://www.polyfilmlabs.co.uk/film-shop/p/p-chrome-100d-e6
IF you want to splash out on 100ft it comes down to around £14 per 36exp but that's just the raw film cost.

It is for me because I think I get better results from my digital kit but I do still love using 120 (Provia) as well as Colour Neg films such as Portra and Ektar.

I only like using slide film so I can hold it up to the light.
I only really use film for fun now, that and I prefer using film cameras. If it’s something I cant afford to lose or I need to know I got it I’ll use digital.

Cambrian had plenty of colour print and B&W this weekend, no slide film, very hard to get hold of, and persistent rumours of Provia's demise.
