I had something posted to me last Tuesday that has not turned up, and someone else sent some things on Thursday to a different address and they have not turned up yet either :'(

Is it just me or is it now normal for things to take 5 days+ to arrive :bang:

Things sent 2nd class tend to take alot longer I've received stuff seven days after posting.

First class is 1 - 3 days of course things do get lost or people don't send them when they say.

I hope whatever it is turns up soon.

As far as I know it was sent first class, I have been onto the sorting office and there is nothing waiting there so its not as if I have missed a card - trouble is I am getting impatient and I want it NOW so that I can see it

Looks like everything needs to go recorded to arrive on time - of course bills always seem to get delivered the next day :bang:

Royal mail used to be the muts nuts but now its just gone down hill :(

Yep, thats probably because for every stamped item of mail we carry we have what seems like ten pieces of junk mail. Still, thats where the money is at and the public wanted a postal service that was open to competition so they only have themselves to blame.

i dont bring back 19p to get a letter there next day!!! that was the day :D

Not recorded, you mean priority or special delivery, recorded delivery isn't any faster than first class.
Well recorded at least arrives!!!

I know I am being impatient but 5 working days (I include Saturday) for one of them and 3 for the other possibly more if they don't turn up tomorrow is going a bit far. Junk mail always arrives the next day though  I think firms should pay twice as much for junk mail and it should go to the back of the queue so that everything else could get precedence, that way companies may think twice about sending it and posties would have less of it to sort and deliver!!

How do you know that junk mail arrives the next day? There's no date on it!

LOL, that should have been a laughing smiley!! Its whats known as sods law, plus the date on the contents of the ones I have opened give it away ;)

I never get my post before 2pm and i live right nextdoor to the sorting office! Funniest thing is if they fail to deliver a parcel then they don't take it back to the sorting office for collection they take it to a village post office 6 miles away. Now where is the logic in that??

Well, for one, deliveries come from delivery offices, so any mail that is pouched off at the end of a walk (not delivered) will be returned to the DO so the fact that you live near to a sorting office should have no relevance whatsoever.

royal mail is the fastest way to get junk mail and bills to your home, due bto the AMAZING ability to do this genuine postal articles tend to join the back of the queue and therefore there delivery is delayed, but dont worry, hown else are you going to learn about all those fantastic credit cards that MBNA have to offer and those poor people at halifax who can offer you a loan of 40million pounds....

I ordered a tripod head yesterday afternoon
It arrived 10 this morning Royal Mail recorded (sign for)
Guess that's not too bad!

Sorry for hijacking, but thought as it related to Royal Mail, I'd dish the dirt here!

In March, sent a camera bag to a TP member. He bought it off me for £30. Did not arrive, so waited for the necessary time to elapse before claiming compensation. On May 6th, got a letter back saying that the post code was incorrect, even though the buyer confirmed it was correct. They said the item would be located at the "undelivered items depot" and then returned to me ASAP.

Went into the main PO at Norwich today. The manager rang on my behalf and was told that there was nothing they could do. They in effect lost the item and said I would not be getting a penny :annoyed:

Anyway, as I did put a sender address on the package, I will be taking it up with Postwatch, BBC watchdog and also through the small claims court if necessary. I am without the bag, RM have as good as lost the item and are not paying me a penny...

So you put an incorrect address on the item and it's RM's fault that it didn't get delivered? Sounds as though it get destroyed with the sensitive waste which is a shame but these things happen.

Do you send out much junk mail and bills then?

But I'd expect Royal Mail to return the item to me, since I gave them the information. It isn't theirs to destroy. It was my property which I entrusted them with to deliver....In any case, the buyer confirms absolutely 100% that the post code is correct and so is the rest of the address....

Well if you're not happy next time you can always take it there yourself

Ever since RM lost an item and used the incorrect postcode excuse (I was using the address printed on an item's packaging) I've checked every address on their online checker.

I also use Certificates of Posting, but the time used for filling them outweighs the value of any losses, especially when jumping through hoops to get a claim fulfilled is factored in.

I've been amazed at the local knowledge of the sorting office when they've successfully delivered mail to me with very scant address information.

nope, but i seem to get alot, wheres the justice!
There's none. Since you (the Public) continually prattle on about how bad the service has become and have clamoured for it to be opened to competition they are handling increased amount of junk for those companies that are taking advangate of the competion, all at a loss.

Meanwhile, RM are no longer able to subsidise the hundreds or thousands of rural and semi-rural post offices that they did in the past and they are all being shut. And now the public don't like it.

All those folks that complained in the past and wished for something to be done have now cut off their own noses :bonk:

I get ****ed off with unsolicited junkmail delivered in an envelope with "HAND DELIVERED BY ROYAL MAIL" written on it, that was all

i know your a postie tigerimages, and i aplaud your job i really do, anyone that delivers in some of the ***** weather we recieve needs a pat on the back!

and i know that the postoffice is underfunded etc but really i dont know how many more "zurich" insurance leaflets i can take!! :bang:

Yep I applaude our local Postie lady
she provides an excellent service, some the "addresses" from senders are beyond belief, but everything seems to arrive.

Parcelfarce are the ones that seem to screw-up big time around here.
And of course its never their fault!

I must be nice to tigerimages - you may be my local postie :) Are you on hols this week by any chance? I had to go hunting for you yesterday to snatch an RMSD and I found a stranger doing the round.

Markta - if you didn't send it RMSD or Signed For then it is pointless tackling Royal Mail about a lost item - or any other action you're considering.

The Signed For service, which is just a fancy name for the old Recorded service, is now a joke. There was a time when Recorded items could almost be guaranteed to arrive next day. But these days I find that Signed For First Class consistently takes longer than just First Class.

If it is in any way important then send it by RMSD. Otherwise chuck it in the bin yourself.

True but that made oi laarf!

the best thing to do with junk mail is to fire it back in a post box. If you mark it undelivered then RM need to send it back to the originator.....

So they get loads of junkmail :)

Sorry, just read my OP again. I did send it recorded delivery signed for because of the value of the bag, second hand, think I sold it for £30...

I once received an item addressed to:
Christine with the Dobermanns
*name of village*
Sussex

which I thought was pretty good, however that was quite a few years ago. A recent postman seemed to think that delivering post within a quarter of a mile was okay and we were always swopping post with neighbours as there was no point in taking it back to the PO as they would not send him to literacy classes.

Do you know you can cut down on junk mail with the mailing preference scheme?. There is also something similar for junk faxes

You can pick up a form at your local post offics (if it still exists) and request not to receive those things, however, it'll only put a stop on the current maximum of 3 items per week delivered by RM. They currently want to increase that number though because it's an area where they make money. Personally I find them a pita but they earn us extra money so if they'd pay a decent rate for them I'd blitz everyone with ten lots per week, it would make that much difference to me because I go to the houses anyhow.

Sorry if I overreact to some people but it annoys me how people are so quick to complain at the slightest issue yet never praise the job.. And even more so won't extend to a christmas card and a fiver for a drink "on us" at that festive time of year

If done right by the person delivering the item, then it hasn't changed for the worse at all. You are now able to go online and see the signature (and printed name) of the person that that has signed for it. I'm afraid, to me, your post is just another sweeping generalisation that the general public make about a value for money service that they know little or nothing about yet feel qualified enough to have an opinion on it.

Do you honestly think that bothers the sender?

Those letters will go back into the system and get sorted back to the delivery prep frame, therefore taking as much time and resources as an ordinary first class letter yet RM get nil revenue for it. Then when it gets back to the delivery prep frame it gets knocked down by the delivery postman and officially returned to the sender. The whole process takes time and money and means more work where it isn't really necessary effectively clogging up an already supposedly poor system and delaying peoples mail even further, therefore I suggest that your idea of it being the best way to deal with it is utter nonsense. I suggest you simply put it strsight into your recycling bin without opening it.
