Yes
The new 3d nintendo ds (which bores me silly by the way) is about to be released.. I don't play games on computers but look at what it is...
£189 for a 3d player that doesn't need glasses to work
includes a camera that takes 3d pictures with real and adjustable depth.
The same day I saw this jessops have digi photo frames 8" £19.
now put 2+2 together.
a few years down the line (maybe only 1 or two) 3d digi frames will be cheap. I suppose the DS is a pricey 3d frame:D anyway who wouldn't be tempted to see one of thier photos with real depth , even if only for novelty..
If nintendo can do this imagine what Canon or Nokon or olympus could do:eek:

I will stick my neck out here and say regardless of lovin or hatin the idea of 3d , the next two years will see changes bigger than from film to digital..possible.?

If I'm wrong, you're welcome to come back in two years and tell me ;)

3-d cameras have been around for years. It is something that people lost interest in when TV and Cinema cam along as you needed a special viewer to see them.

It would not surprise me to see this expand, but wonder exactly how many people would want this?

True. but now you can view them (the 3d pictures you take). Soon you will be able to view them on your phone, tv, laptop, DS , digi phot frame . Effectively you will be able to view and share them on these forums...That changes considerably who will want it as part of thier dslr spec. Like HDR but for consumer market.

3d is a tricky one. some folk just are not interested..home theater 3d is picking up fast, and samsung reckon that they will be selling more 3d tv then 2d soon. good news for Bluray, as 3d films will need that kind of storage.

Well, you could always view the, they worked by taking 2 pictures from two lenses next to each other. You would then display the 2 photos in a special viewer with each eye viewing just one photo. When the two are viewed together, it gives the impression of 3d.

however, it was very much a one person at a time thing, so knwo what you mean about viewing them, just being pedantic! :)

Without wishing to sound skeptical about something I know very little about, it sounds similar to HDR - some people like it, others don't. Personally photography for me is about light and dark and how you manipulate it, not about seeing 'everything'. I suppose for the casual user it may have more appeal, it'll be interesting to see how things progress for sure.

In any case, they're not truly 3D either - you can't exactly move around the image and see things from different perspectives like you would if images were truly three-dimensional. Until we get into some form of holographic projection, none of this 3D (whether film or still images) is the real deal at all - and a complete waste of money in my opinion.

sony recently demo'd a holographic thingy...

I know a great way of getting everything in 3D, it would work fantastically in som egames, but not all. Driving games for example - you get off your fat backside, go to a racetrack and race the car!!! only way to get true 3d in my book.

Of course, World of Warcraft may be slightly harder to re create, but get yourself a big sword and walk round Moss Side late on a saturday night and you won't be far wrong......

I think games might be pathing the way for popular 3D. Most Sony cameras now have a 3D shooting mode, check it out here. If you have a 3D TV you can then view your photos in 3D on your Sony PS3. I can't imagine many people specifically buying a 3D camera at the moment, but if people already have a camera that does 3D, and a PS3 that supports 3D movies and these 3D images, I can see them being pursuaded to buy the 3D TV. This is where Sony will make there money. They were similarly succesful with Blu Ray movies, everyone boughtt blu ray over hddvd because they already had the player.
