Looking likely, same when hooked up to the laptop.Dammit.

Could just be your graphics card.

Can you get another PC from a mate to plug into your monitor?

Laptops and monitors can be strange, sometimes you need to connect up, switch on monitor before you turn on the laptop.

Did that Mike, also checked that the moniter was recognised in devices, it was. Just a blank screen.

Been looking at these after doing some research on here.............http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultrasharp-...1432319685&sr=1-4&keywords=dell+u2415+monitor

I can`t make out if my existing multi pin connecter will work or whether I need an adapter of some sort.

Can you shed any light on that Mike?

Try a different cable if you can.

I think you would need to contact Dell, Ade, that would be the safest way.

Mind you, Hugh has a fair point about trying another cable.

cheers guys, will check out things before splashing out. Good shout on the cable Hugh, thanks.

Did you check that you haven't had a joker changing your settings on the monitor.

I quite like that one. Makes a change from setting it upside down. Or in mirror.

Just grabbed a moniter out of the motorhome, hooked it all up, everything works fine. Looks like I need a new moniter..................damn,damn,damn.

Thanks for all the help guys.

That monitor has hdmi and display port only by the looks of it (check the spec on dell's website). You can get converters though.

Just checked back of PC and it has a HDMI output, so all good.

Looks weird looking at the forum on a small 19 inch telly.......:D

Quality costs. Look at what he highligts are specifications in a screen, colour gamuts etc. There was some dell ultrasharp one he was singing the praises of, and it was not that dear IIRC
Quality doesn't need to cost, you've even tripped yourself up by saying he did reccomend some Dell or other, Ask David what to buy and he'll tell you a top of the range Lacie or some similar overriced piece of kit, ask him what to buy on a budget and he'll tell you the exact same as the rest of us.

The newest Dell 25" is meant to be a cracking bit of kit U2515H - from around £260.

so my new shiny ultra sharp had turned up. Connected hdmi and usb lead, but my graphics card does not have a dp port. Moniter won't function without apparently. Can I get an adapter, is there a work around or do I get a new graphic card?

@Pookeyhead

That sounds just wrong to me?

Have you been into the monitor menu to see if you can select the HDMI port?

not yet mate. Had to go out for a beer, will check tomorrow. But on an hours messing, the monitor would not even fire up without this dp cable being connected.

If it has HDMI then it should be usable.. probably up to 1920x1200 with no problems.

What monitor is it? What resolution you trying to run it at?

You can get adaptors that go from display port to DV-I readily enough, but ones that go from DV-I to Display Port are more rare.

What video card do you have?

I'm away for 2 days starting from this morning, so you'll probably have it sorted by the time I get back, but if you let us know what monitor model, and what video card you have, I'm sure others on here will sort you out.

Sorted it now. I could not even get into the menu when it was connected to the pc. But just turning the screen on without the pc being on, allowed access to the menu and easy enough to change from default input being DP to HDMI.

Thanks all.

Glad you got there in the end as I could see it was driving you to drink.

I would have thought that technology should make things easier for us in time, not harder.

Dell were always a pain in the backside!

My first Dell and first time a monitor has not been pretty much plug and play.

Looks pretty good though, I got a U 2415. 24 inch screen is big enough for my needs.

My Dell 3008 has never been anything other than a joy. The worst thing about it is that it is so good, I fancy a new screen but cant justify it.

Surely not GAS, JP?! :P

Lol I've resisted for many years now :)

Go on - you know you want to!!! :D
