Is LR really the best option? - Basic RAW processing software

A current obsession seems to be with noise reduction. Not all of us need it. ;-)

If I pick out an image from a few years ago and put it through AI NR, it comes out cleaner and sharper in every way, even if the noise was not particularly noticeable originally.

I suppose it depends on what genre of photography you're working in and what type of equipment you have. Bird photographers are usually pushing the limits of their equipment regarding ISO, shutter speed and aperture, so a run through NR usually is beneficial. This also goes for those with smaller format equipment (eg m4/3). I find that even at base ISO my Olympus images can be cleaned up a little.

Back when I had a D300 the shadows could be over-noisy, even in daylight, but going forward to full frame & later cameras it became hardly an issue. Neither did I do anything over 1,600 iso (city streets at night). Also, I rarely crop, whether with film or digital.

Oh nice! Stunning image too.

Definitely something to consider :)
have you decided yet, thing is if you get the Adobe Photography plan, you will have LRC and LRD as well as mobile and Photoshop so you can then have a go with both.
Better still why not get a trial of both LR’s then if you did want to go with LRD you could get the LRD with 1TB.

Hiya, yep I’m definitely going to go with one of the Adobe Lightroom’s.

After looking at all the other options, I keep coming back to the fact that Adobe has all the features I want even for simply RAW processing. But is also very cost affective, for what you get.

Still not 100% sure between classic or LrD, but I might take your advice there and do the trial and try both.

Unfortunately been busy with work, so hopefully I can get it set up and tried this week

Good choice whichever of the LR packages you go for.

I think that depends on your skills, honestly. I use Photoworks and to me it's great for processing raw images, but I know there are better programs. It's just that I'm a hobbyist and not really looking to use anything sophisticated, I'm fine with the results I get. Occasionally I'd use Lightroom mobile, which is also pretty simple.
