Hmm.
I'd say no.
Go for good glass.
 
Make a list of what you want that the D5100 doesn't give you. If the D5300 would give you the extra features it may be worth upgrading.

However, at a guess, the upgrade is more of a sidestep and update than a massive upgrade so maybe consider a D7100 instead if your budget will allow it.
 
More of a side step than upgrade IMO. Why not look at the D7*** range if you want an upgrade?
 
I would agree, not worth upgrading within the same series.
A upgrade would be more noticable if you went for the D7000/D7100 body.
Or as somebody mentioned, put the money towards some quality glass.
There is very limited good glass for the DX range, a couple are the best .....

i can't afford the D7100 even paying it over time would be hard £226 deposit £45.26 over 24 months at intrest rate 15.9%

reason i wanna go for d5300 is there has been alot of improvements since d5100

Personally, I'd go for the 5200. In fact, I did :)
But it wasn't as an upgrade.
You've heard peoples views, which you asked for, but if you want to buy another body, well, it's your money :)
I don't really think that changing to another 5000 series body will improve your photography.
Practise and lenses are more likely to do so.
Higher megapixel count is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things. 10MP is more than enough for viewing on a computer screen and I'm quite happy with my D200 in that respect.

(The light kept changing from some cloud to clear sky within the hour I was taking these and I could probably muck about with the colour balance a bit in Lightroom)

7100 is £659 at Digitalrev :)
...though the 7000 is £499.
