is it worth buying a bushhawk?

Ok, anybody on here who has experience of one of these (good and bad) just had quick look on the bushhawk website and they seem pretty good for the price,
 
It looks good and stable but it may get in the way if you are out walking but in a hide it looks to be a good thing
 
i found bushhawk usa cheaper than europe, its the accessories that bump it up, for example the quick release clamp, and remote shutter cable... if you could get these from uk it would be really good. I think there is room for improvement with bushhawk but overall i glad i purchased mine, in fact i dont go anywhere without it now... ideal for panning altho my arm does ache if trying to get a still shot or holding still for a while, apart from that id recommend buying one, but look at usa site as well, postage took about 7 days.
 
Assuming that we're talking about the shoulder stock, and not some of their other products, then I use mine with the 300/4 and 400/5.6 and find it is quite intuitive. I had the old Kaiser version way back in the 70's for airshow stuff and never fell out with them...useful when the moment's right.

I have the 320d. I recently used it on my first shoot. The jury is still out. It takes a bit of getting used to (as most things do). I need to find a way of getting comfortable with it.
I ended up with a stiff neck due to having to keep my head cranked to the right. It must be me though. Everyone else has said it just takes time to get used to it.
They certainly do help with the panning though. The one problem I did have was that the trigger failed at an important time. Resulting in missed shots. I repaired it in situ though and all was ok after then.
The cable is an absolute rip off. I paid something like £40ish for a cable about 12" long. You could make one for next to nothing if you can get the pin configuration sorted.
If I decide its not for me, there may be one going in the For Sale section. :D

Do you ever visit the mach loop ? if so then there plenty of guys up there with one, they will let you hold or even try it out ? make your own mind up

I was going to buy one but think it may be a problem as I use my left eye.

yeah thats the one, was thinking for Aviation stuff. but also looking at a gitzo tripod and wimberley, only concern is if i would be able to manage the 400 on the bushhawk

Quite a few people use left eye instead of right, i gonna give it a go myself next time i use it, supposed to be better with left eye ??

The mach loop is a a circuit used by the r a f and u s a f for low level training, loads of different places to stand, most of the aircraft pics on here are from some low fly area, its about 20 miles from bala in wales. Well worth the visit if aviation photography is somethin you want to do. i use my 120-400 on my bushhawk no problem at all.

Ahh ok sounds like it would be worth a visit when i get back on leave in August :)

should only be a few hours drive from Preston.

do you find you need the flexibility of a midrange zoom for the aviation? Just sold the 70-200 so the only other zoom is 24-70
 
Depends on where you want to stand, Most the guys up there are on 200, 300, 400mm prime lenses, i usually leave mine set to bout 250- 300, so i guess the answer to the flexibility zoom will be a no, a fixed focal lengh is just fine.

That vid sums it up pretty well, There a few good places to stand, the side which the vid was shot, the opposite side so you get cockpit views, you can get above or below, or even get them banking hard round a corner, all excellent vantage points for your shiny new bushhawk :)
 
I hope to get up the loop tomorrow and hope a kind person will let me hold a Bushhawk to see if there worth getting. Heard theres a few people up there using them.

i gettin up there monday/tuesday. if your up there then ya can have a go with mine.
 
lol thanks for the offer. Only planning to go there tomorrow then I might not be able to make that.
 
thanks for all the help and responses guys :-) i'll deffo get my self down there for a few trips in August, be good to meet more people off here
