Is it THAT time yet...

Lol yes our boiler pressure was at 0.2 or something like this. It still engaged and switched on. Then I remembered that I took two radiators of the walls to redecorate. A quick top up and bleed and it is lovely. Tested it three nights in a row now.

My heating is never off. It is controlled by a thermostat rather than a timer or on/off switch and comes on when the temperature drops below the relevant threshold (15C at night and weekday daytimes, 19C at getting up time in the week, evenings and weekends).

I just finished getting the underfloor heating working in my kitchen at the weekend, just in time for the cold weather as the CH came on on Sunday. So nice walking around on a warm floor in my socks. Even if the floor is just tile backing board as I haven't tiled it yet.

Central heating has already been on in the mornings. Last year it was barely off for more than a few weeks. Currently toasting in front of the gas fire. I can't stand being cold.
I don't have a gas (or other) fire, but also can't stand being cold. If money were tight I'd go without other stuff like alcohol to balance the budget before forgoing the central heating.

Must admit I fancy a thermostat that can be set like this. There is a school of thought that says its cheaper to keep the house constantly slightly warm(15 or so) and then up it to say 19 when required rather than let it get cold during the day/overnight and then trying to reheat the whole house back up to 19 when required. Not sure how true that is though.

Presumably as there's no gas involved, its a fairly simple task to swap a thermostat to one like this? Where can I get one? Cheers.

Mine is a Honeywell CM927 (from memory). I turned off the boiler at the mains, removed the old dial thermostat in the hall and fitted the receiver unit for wireless 'stat in its place - it has four connections, 240V +/- supply and the two that are switched, the old dial type thermostat had the same (some boilers use 20V rather than 240V I think, so care and a good read of the boiler installation manual is needed), it was just a matter of figuring out which was which. One installed I then set the CH timer on the (combi) boiler to be always on, and just allow the wireless thermostat to control when the heating is running.

I didn't need to open the boiler or go anywhere near the gas.

The CH did come on one morning in August this year when the temperature outside was 2C, but other than that it has only started coming on since this Sunday.

We had ours on for the first time last night, but only because the temperature in the babys room dropped below 15.5 degrees. Baby likes to be toasty :D

Thanks for that. Are the replacement units switchable between 20V or 240V? Or do you have to purchase the correct one to go with whatever voltage is used? Thanks

From memory (I did this over a year ago), the Honeywell required a 240V supply to work and would switch either voltage. My old dial stat also required 240V to work and was switching 240V. My boiler had thermostat connections on the bottom for switching both the lower voltage (which I think was 20V) and 240V, and had been wired by the installer to use those for 240V.

As I say, that's all from memory, I'd have to go home and find the boiler installation manual and check the circuit diagrams to be certain, and it wouldn't necessarily be relevant to yours anyway.

Havent put ours on yet as the house isnt really that cold.
I light chill in the morning but not worthy enough to switch the boiler on.
Incidentally since we got our new double glazing fitted the house holds its heat far better than before. So much so that occasionally we get condensation on the outside of the window

Awwww, bless :-)

Did I ever find you :ROFLMAO:
Just think of the name of another member of the forums ;)

Wow, I must be having a really thick day (no comments on that please)...

...I havent got a clue :D

Ahhh, now ive got it!

Blimey, took me a while :D Sorry Ingrid

Ill just go back to sleep for a while...

i guess I should mention that ours is never actually 'turned off' as such either. We had a combi boiler fitted about 5 years ago complete with wireless thermostat and like Mark, it is basically set so that overnight and during the day it's about 15 degs, and 17 I think for morning/evenings. Obviously those can be adjusted to 'persuade' it to come on if we are feeling just a bit too cold. I did the pressure water fill thing a couple of weeks ago too, it had dropped just below a 1 bar - not sure why, it is one of those little jobs I find very satisfying :cautious::wacky:

Its very cold, heating on for sure. I hate the cold, cannot wait for this autumn/winter to end and spring/summer to come again

You have a long long long long wait!

....nope...youve lost me, sorry  :$

Did someone call ? (due to the ignore list the bottom half of this thread makes very little sense, i can pretty much just see your posts + Yv and Chris) but i'd guess the usual suspects are taking my name in vain again)

Seems if the ladies need warming up they start thinking about me .. what can i say, I guess its just the natural order of things

oh and chris , this moose shoots back ;)
