Is it THAT time yet...

But it is 12 C - middle of summer temps.

Resist you know your wallet will appreciate it:)

Er indoors has had the CH on for a week!
I'm still sat here in shorts, sweating.

Well so far i had been ok, up until the weekend, i'd seen loads of fb saying for ages they had been putting their heating on..... at the moment i'm resisting but a couple of times these last few days i've stuck the fire on for half hour!

Refusing to put the heating on though properly as i really don't want to buy more oil yet

Neither yet, no.
A woolly maybe...but not the heating, although the burner keeps looking at me like it wants feeding! :-)

I do actually wish we had a fire/burner of some sort I could put in without having to go full heating, but they were all removed from this house many years ago. I am not too bad, its the cold hands that are the real problem and editing in gloves isn't totally easy  Its not on yet, but not sure how much longer this can go on for.

Heated mouse Yv. Trust me....heated mouse :-)

I put the heating on last night, for the first time this autumn, then turned it off because it was getting too warm. The multi-fuel stove will probably get an airing soon; it gives a nice gentle glow to a fair bit of the house.

Not had the heating on yet, but I'm thinking of closing the windows.

I suffer with cold hands all year round (Raynauds), but have some heated gloves which plug-in to a USB connection which help and as they are fingerless are better than a normal glove for editing.

Had it on for an hour on Sunday.

I ran mine a couple of days ago, for an hour, just to test it, in "preparation".
But its not been on since.

Yes we had frost in August and our heating for what it is, is on. ans staying on.

I always say not before the clocks go back but I'm beginning to waiver!

Thats always been my thinking too, but its bloody tempting at the moment. Might have to investigate those gloves @lostsoulal2 has mentioned.

Like Sarah, I hate how having it on makes upstairs too hot, even though those radiators up there are thermostatically controlled and turned off.

"Unfortunately" heat rises, that what it does :D
Actually I keep my bedroom door shut, and the windows open to a greater or lesser degree.
That seems to solve the problem of a overly hot bedroom.

Well, the CH is set to come on should the hall 'stat drop below whatever it's set to (IIRC 17 C) but hasn't fired up yet. Only turned it on at lunchtime though and it only comes on early morning and evenings so I reckon tomorrow morning (Mrs Nod's alarm goes off at 05:45...) will see it engaged. Seriously considering having a wood burning insert fire where there's currently an open gas burner but not got a good source of free firewood any more. It'll be mainly for show rather than a significant source of heating (probably) though so could be worth the effort of removing the fire back and rebuilding the fireplace - hearth complies with building regs for an insert but isn't deep enough to have a free standing stove in front of the existing fireplace.

I bought a couple of pairs from eBay (use them for driving too) a couple of years ago - think I paid £3.99 and they are still working.... :) do a search for "heated gloves USB", there are some starting from £2.38.

Mine's night storage, which us very good most of the time but yesterday I got soaked in the rain,
came home cold and never really warmed up till I went to bed and curked up under the duvet
So I have put one heater in the hallway on to keep the chill off and help dry things out,
Sods Law it's been pretty good today!

Combine that with wood / tiled floors downstairs vs carpet upstairs and we have two completely different temperature zones (even with the radiators upstairs switched off) :(

 Just ordered two pairs from EBay - one for home and one for work.
Thanks for the tip.

@Yv. I've just given in and turned the fire on!

I always believe it's best to test the system before the real nasty weather kicks in. That way, if it's bust after the Summer lay-off, you can get it fixed when it's still bearable outside, and before the fixer person has a huge waiting list of urgent fixes.

Of course, a proper test should be over several days to simulate actual usage conditions.

That's my excuse for early heating, anyway....

BINGO!!! There is the excuse I needed, I can't be having to call Oliver out in December now can I :D  [I can of course conveniently forget he only tested and serviced it in June]

Now if you will excuse me, I have some ebay glove shopping to do :D

Have checked the system today and bled the rads.

Over the last 2 years the house has been redecorated witj all external walls lined with insulating board internally. Got a gpod deal from my local boiler guy on a new controller system. So far the system has not turned on but we get a really good thermal gain from the back of the house. Will continue to track the amount of gas units we buy. Overall it's reducing but it's a struggle to actually spend less. My man cave and main room have wood burners which are going to be big savers as our younest son has left home (again) so there is just 2 of us here. Final bonus is we got a huge pile of wood from a friend who dumped a few trailer loads of logs from the old trees he had to clear as they were past their sell by date.

Hoping this coming 'cold season' we will fimally see a further reduction of bought in energy (incl electricity) over last year's total.

Not a lot left to do. We have attacked the lighting with LED alternatives but I am doubtful of full benefit long term yet. Trialled a few different makes but a few failures in the short term may swerve the cost benefit ratio. At present all failures get refund or replacement.

So back on theme. Only tested heating after doing maintenence but plenty of solar gain this afternoon.

Looking forward to firing up the system to balance the house vs the cold weather.

You are the 5th person I have heard suffering flu

Hopefully those who get an annual flu jab have already done so. I got mine in September.

I decline mine annually :-)

The heating is on in the kids rooms but still down low. I'm definitely feeling the temperature change, I get achy/ stiff ankles in cold weather and they are now starting to play up.

Due to my own health factors and that includes a compromised immume system, I need every bit of support. If I was as healthy as I was pre 2006 I would not go near the jabs.

Not had the heating on yet, as I get to bask in the glow of my own awesomeness. :naughty:

Stand a little closer to your monitor Ian, and share the glow, there's a good chap

:p The heat radiating from my tri monitor set up is enough to make me feel warm. I'm surprised I don't glow like the Ready Brek kid at night.

Wood burners are great when wood is free, with a bit of hard work involved..............;)

Central heating has already been on in the mornings. Last year it was barely off for more than a few weeks. Currently toasting in front of the gas fire. I can't stand being cold.

heating went on for an hour this morning while the kids got ready for school then back off again

at the moment it's 9 degrees outside and this room is 27 degrees with no heating
the computer being on 24/7 keeps this room toasty warm all year round :)

No heating on yet, but I just pressurised the combi because it slipped below 1 bar of pressure, amd it needed coaxing towards 1.5 bar just in case.
The missus was sitting on the sofa earlier with two fleeces wrapped around her, whilst I was still in shorts and t shirt:)
Hopefully it will be November before I turn the heating on again.
